Didn't Arsenal win the cup in 79? A few years ago I used to watch Sheffield FC a couple of times a season but had difficulties actually supporting a Sheffield club even though they played in Dronfield. I'm hoping to get to see FC Girona in a few months but I doubt I'll ever see them again if I do.
Would love to know. My parents have a place out there & go plenty of times during the season, my dad would definitely take a trip up north for a game.
I assume it was George Spicer who got in contact with Radio Sheffield..... They followed on with this tonight and about 6:12 read out on air Barnsley fan George from Surrey said his second club is Bordeaux and he takes the wife there for a month every year for wine and olives tasting
I was winging it a bit with the year, It was the Stuart Pearson , Lou Macari final maybe '77 . I'd have loved to go and see Lazio when Gazza was playing for them . They'd do for me .
You managed to survive 5 years in Glasgow? That really is some achievement. Well done. Partick Thistle mate are a great club. Supporters real football people. Always like visiting Firhill and having a pint in the Partick Social Club. Always made very welcome. Great people. BTW Xerxes not a lot has changed regarding the scum 2. Oh and my 2nd team is Barnsley.
Diosgyori Miskolc is a bit random mate. I saw United play them 79/80 UEFA Cup. Unfortunately we got beat 4-1 agg. I just read up on them and that is quite an impressive stadium they now play in. I never went to the away leg but from what I remember they come from a very industrial area, might even be a mining area. Don't remember much from the game at Tannadice but got beat 1-0 so maybe don't want to remember anything. LOL
Like many forces in BFG, Borrusia Monchengladbach. Now watch AFC Fylde on occasionally (when we are not playing)
At uni I used to go watch Cheltenham Town regularly in the dr martens league, went to a cup replay against vs rugby away there were 36 supporters
The family that we know in Hungary come from the North East in a village called Pacin. The Father of the family was born and raised in Miskolc, so DVTK is his club. When we first went to a game there it was in a very much Eastern bloc style sports stadia. Extremely intimidating, the away fans arrived and were greeted by masses of police wearing what looked like ice hockey armour. Within the ground, facing the fans were muscle bound type bouncers, we were all caged, at one end a fire engine with police and the like just waiting for it to kick off. Over the last 8 years or so things really altered with a better atmosphere, bigger crowds and finally a new stadium on the old site. Still loads of bouncers though.
Locomotive Tbilisi as the less wealthy of the city’s 2 traditional club, but looking forward to some European football next season from the new money club FC Saburtalo (nearest club to where I live) - won the league, so UEFA qualifiers in August I think. Still have a soft spot for Hertha from my days in Berlin and still have British mates there with season tickets.
Couple of my mates went and said similar. Remember them saying it all looked very poor. Certainly looks like Hungary have caught up and maybe surpassed us in some areas. BTW they are my Hungarian team as I have seen them play although I always liked Ujpest Doza as I liked the purple kit.
We went to a Ujpest game in Budapest. Our main man bribed a petrol station forecourt owner to park there when there was very little space. Bribed people in the ticket queue to get in for the start. Sat with the Ujpest fans and advised not to cheer for DVTK, then he promptly did cheer the DVTK goal and quickly had to adapt what he was saying to suggest he was bemoaning the Ujpest defence. Listen to the racist chanting, that unfortunately still occurs there with certain teams, by the Ujpest crowd 'encourages'. But other than that it was alright. I had a mate who came from Dundee, he followed the other lot in blue.
You keep unsavoury company. One who bribes his way around and another who supports a dodgy and unlikeable lot. I also saw Hibs play Videoton in UEFA Cup. Not sure if they actually exist now.
You are right mate. I just checked. Videoton now known as MOL VIDI. They actually play Miskolc on Saturday 4pm ko.
