I wouldn't hold your breath for McBurnie. End of August if at all I would think. Still don't quite understand the clamour for him to be honest but hey ho.
Unless Joe Williams is ready to start, which Hecky suggests he is, I don't think wehave the personnel to play 4-4-2. I can only see 4-5-1 at the moment, with all the primarily central attacking midfielders we have signed.

We need to be as hard to beat as possible in the first month and give ourselves a chance on the break

Think that's pretty much spot on, With Hammil and Isgrove cutting inside rather than as out and out wingers.

They are the only two holding type of midfielders we have but you get where I'm coming from

I'd go with the below and try and get them playing on the break. Try and push the wide men more up alongside Bradshaw and get one of Moncur and Mowett joining late in the box.

Defensively I'd have that midfield form a flat block of 5 and try to make it hard for teams to get through.

Most teams will waltz past the fanny holes in front of MacDonald and Lindsay

Agreed, if they play like today they will. :)

Moncur showed at the end of last season he was prepared to do a shift and put himself about and Mowett is clearly fit enough to do plenty of running, so it's down to them (and the coaching team) to sort it out. Moncur played deep in the game I saw and he was wasted there. He needs to be further up the pitch to affect the game and the same with Mowatt. We can't play Williams or Sessi alongside them at the moment, so 442 is out. We could go more defensive as suggested higher up (with Williams and Sessi) but that looks a bit limited, and is essentially playing 7 defenders as neither of those is going to get forward much.

This game is hopefully a kick up the arse and hopefully they'll put a good week training in and react well. It sounds like it was really poor but if we're going to go for a defensive set-up it could be a long season. We've got attacking players so stick with them and hope we can get them working hard and defending like they should. Fact is we've signed young lads, so they have to be given some time. If we're packing up after a friendly defeat, we have problems :)

We could go defensive, absolutley and may have to as you have to ask where the goals are. That, for me. is the major differemce between this inexperienced Championship side and the one qe had on hanf this time last season.
