With january descending upon us soon , how do you think we will negotiate the transfer window ? I personally would like us to bring in an extra striker & a wide man , also the situation with Jack Walton should be clearer & if he is fit ,then thats fine ,but if he is still out ,then an additional keeper should be brought in for cover & competition for Davies . I foresee one or two going out on loan , maybe Victor & Jarod Bird for example . I am concerned that some of the lower end championship clubs may come sniffing round & unsettling one or two of our better players , with Moore , Mowatt & Pinnock being the obvious ones but hopefully the new regime stand firm & any business be designed to aid us with the push for promotion . I am interested in what other people think .
With a PCL injury, you'll be very lucky to see Walton again this season. I cant see any need for a wide man. We've Thiam, Potts, Brown, Isgrove, Moncur, Hedges... and if we were really struggling with just the 6 players who can play wide, I suspect the Williamses could give it a crack.. or even bring back Mottley-Henry for a bit of raw pace. I think its time to look to truly contest the number 1 position and I'd be keen to buy a keeper. Especially with Davies contract up in the summer. A right back for first choice. I'm not sure if i'd get a striker in or not. Purely because it might then block off Brown or Adeboyejo or both, but they seem to have faded a little, so I'm torn. I think Moore and Woodrow are going to gel really well, and already, I think we've got a goalscorer with a bit of composure on our hands if we can keep him fit. Depends whats out there I guess. But as you say, it depends who comes calling and with how much. I'd be very surprised if we didn't lose 1 or 2. And I don't think we should be scared of that. if that money is then used to buy better.
For me, it's abundantly clear that we must keep our best players - we cannot sell Moore, Mowatt etc and need to get those out of contract signed up! We are vulnerable in the keeper position, particularly with Davies regularly being called up by Wales. Even if Walton gets fit, he still has a lot to learn - more experience is needed - I'm worried that this could derail our promotion ambitions. Another striker would be a great help to Moore & Woodrow - Brown is looking better & better but we looked lightweight upfront when Moore & awoodrow were injured - again, this lack of top cover could derail promotion. So ... A striker & keeper!
Definitely need a keeper . I really hope we keep Moore and Woodrow. We need promotion so unless the wheels have come off by January we heed to keep our team as intact as we can.
Managers get accused of tinkering too much, not aif as much as some fans wanting to play footie manager. Leave it art and give us a breather before January. Bloody transfer windows.
I can see 1 or 2 departures either on loan or sold I think a keeper is a must their is enough cover for wide positions within the club for me Brown is just a bit light weight and maybe should be allowed to go out on loan for some game time So then we would need a striker than can compete for a start in the starting 11
For those who think the new owners are here to make a quick buck off selling players and those of us who don't I think it will be a telling window. I think it's highly likely we'll get a few good offers for Moore. I would hope none of them are entertained. I'd like another striker in regardless though.
Keeping Moore Mowatt and Potts at the club is job one. Secondly we still need a striker, a loan may be the solution here.
I'd be ecstatic with none in and none out. Only a keeper if Walton injured bring in a big German lad. Look at the size of our squad it makes no sense to disrupt it, we seem to be getting up to speed now with Woodrow getting fit, Mcgheehan stepping up to the plate, Fryers coming back strong, Mowatt, Pinnock, Moore Lyndsay consistent, Thiam and Cavare scaring everyone, Davies looks confident and Potts looks strong. We have a quality bench too with Jackson, Bahre, Moncur, Hedges, Brown, Isgrove, Bird, Pinnilos and the Williams duo. Its good enough strengthen a bit in the summer when we a promoted.
Keeping our squad together has to be the main priority. You’d have thought players would want to stay for a potential promotion push in the second half of the season but I guess money talks. Given Walton’s injury and the uncertainty currently with Adam’s contract, I’d be looking at a keeper. I’d also say a young centre back too. I think that’s probably it. I would’ve said striker maybe but I’d imagine Moore and Woodrow will play a lot of minutes between now and the end of the season and we have Brown and Adeboyejo to come in.
If we keep our present squad then I think minimal incoming will happen. But I certainly might look to having a keeper in on loan.
I agree with a lot of what you say but when I say a wide man , I mean someone of a hammill type , someone who is capable of beating men & getting to the bye line , whilst I agree that we have players who do a job out wide, I sometimes think that when teams come to Oakwell & pack the defence we could just do with a different option , an old type winger , Moncur is the only one with the talent to attack a defence ,but he is not a natural winger . Regarding a striker , when Bradshaw was sold & Woodrow was injured despite good efforts from the young lads ,it was mainly left to Moore to plough a lone farrow , I would just like to cover any injury problems for the front two with bringing in another striker , there is nothing wrong with competition .
Personally I feel we need full backs (left and right) that first and foremost are defenders. What we have are FBs good going forward but whose defensive qualities are questionable. If we play 3-5-2 we can keep what we have until the end of the season.
My problem with keeping what weve got is it means a rebuilding job again in the summer because sadly what weve got is not good enough for the championship. Keeper .Two full backs. Centre back. Winger. Striker.
It's not a question of whether what we have is good enough for the championship it's whether what we have is good enough to get us promoted.
The squads big & strong, we shouldn’t need any new signings to get promotion except possibly a goalie if Walton’s out long term. Ideally I’d like us to have 4 first team centre backs & we’ve only got 3 but hopefully Will Smith or Ben Williams can do a job & apparently Dougall can play there too. Main priority has to be us not losing any of our key players
If we are to continue playing 442 then we need another striker. The manager obviously doesn't trust the young lads to do a job in a 442 as he changed the formation.
The wide players certainly aren't out and out wingers. Personally I'd have kept Hammill. With his pace, the energy, the trickery and most importantly... the other players taking away the double banking, I think we'd have been light years ahead of any team in this league. The striker one I'm still torn on. I think there is something in Brown. It will take time, and he may be converted to right back with his energy and crossing ability, and I suspect he might listen and improve there. We'll soon see.
I would have certainly kept Hammill & thats exactly my point , a player who might just change a game , that something different when we need to try something . Regarding Brown , I think he is coming along nicely but this season is developing into an opportunity to return to the championship & january gives us a chance to strengthen , I might be wrong but an extra striker gives us a bit more insurance in the fire power department & I feel it would do us no harm , someone like Fletcher on loan would not go a miss .
