I've been receiving e-mails from Yorkshire Bank saying that I need to download their new banking app to my phone or tablet. If I don't, I could have difficulty in making payments ( other than Standing Orders), because from September, they are introducing a new system. Once I try to do any payment they will send a unique code to my device, which I have to input to complete the transaction. I wrote to them in July to query if the e-mail was genuine. I have yet to recieve any reply. Until I do, I've deleted the e-mails and not downloaded anything.
Check that the e-mail address it's sent from looks correct. The chances are it'll be something like yorkshirebank@sdjfsdjf.com, and then you know for sure it's a scam. Spelling-mistakes in the e-mail and badly-structured sentences are a dead giveaway, too.
The e-mail address shown is welcome@yorkshirebank.co.uk It says to prove its genuine they have included the last three digits of my postcode at the top, which is correct. It goes on to say to never ever divulge PIN numbers or customer numbers to anyone. The e-mail is tagged with the name Wilson Ferguson who is described as the bank's Head of Online Channels.
Every bank is having to introduce two factor identification to process transactions from September due to a new (EU) law so that will be genuine. Downloading their official app is safe anyway, just don’t download anything straight from a link from an email. Always go direct to source from any text or email you receive rather than clicking a link. If the phone rings, and I don't know the number, I don't answer it. When was the last time anyone took a call from an unknown number that delivered them good news or anything worthwhile? Add to that, when was the last time anything of interest (with the exception of something you have specifically ordered) dropped through anyone's letter box? And as for emails and online banking, Bain of my life. I'm in my early 40s and choose not to have a smart phone because I despise what they have done to society. But bit by bit my bank, my work, my utility providers are making it impossible for me to get by in life by traditional methods, you know the old concept SPEAKING TO PEOPLE (capitals copyright of Young Nudger there) Get this. The other day, I called Virgin Media to complain that our broadband is constantly going down. Her advice was to download an app, and when it's down, report on the app that it's down. How do I report my internet being down when my internet's down???!!! Maybe I am just struggling to accept change, but have I changed, or is the world changing around me and I just haven't got on board with it?
