The exact same science that now has you over 20 times more likely to die from COVID in the UK than Japan (per head of population)? The science that was somehow different to countries in Asia and Europe - until they saw the results of the Imperial College work that showed 250,000 deaths in the UK alone. Our current CSA is aiming to have under 8,000 deaths in the UK, but we are still not quarantining anyone entering the country. So we could lock down for 3 weeks, and someone could waltz in from France and start it all again.

The world was too slow to respond this time (and the USA and others still are), but if we had a global coordinated shutdown of everything non-essential (including stock markets and currency exchanges), with mandatory quarantines, for 4 weeks in February, we could have contained this disease with minimal loss of life and we would all be back at work now arguing about how we were going to get the points needed to clinch safety.

That's a load of ******** for a start. The miners supported everyone in their disputes. The trade union movement turned their backs when they had the chance to reciprocate.

Tbh I haven't a clue what the cons did or what labour did or what the coalition's did, I do know many northern areas turned blue in the GE, probably from people looking forward not backwards, now if the cons were looked upon with hatred back in the day they clearly are not looked at now with the same hatred , the GE proved that, areas that were staunch labour going to the cons, maybe speak to these people who live and work in the area, probably 45/ 50% weren't even born or have no recollection of 84, society and attitudes change, people who were not born in that era have nothing to compare todays life with that of a life before they were a spunk bubble

How the Conservatives are still in power after the nightmare of thelst 10 years is beyond me.
Pretty simple pal, there's been no opposition.

quite right, if the media and press would get off his back, he will sort it, the pres do the same wit our footballers and sports stars they build them up and then screw them, all to sell a few papers or there tv programme. i mean boris comes on tv and declares lock down, stay at home and what is the first question he gets off the thick press men is what do you mean, can we have clarity. even i can understand him,STAY IN THE BLOODY HOUSE

Goodness. This thread has grazed over a lot of ground.
To my mind Johnson isn’t the worst Tory there’s been in recent times. I don’t think he carries any hard right political ideology and he clearly cares about what’s happening and is, I think, genuinely doing his best to handle it.
However, the simple truth is, he’s out of his depth. The classic case of ‘overpromoted’ who, when serious politics is necessary, can’t rise to the challenge.
I find his use of the term ‘Our NHS’ particularly distasteful after 10 years in which Social Care has been systematically dismantled and the NHS starved of resources and leadership.
However, the real culprits are the English electorate. They have understood what was on offer, and have voted for it, not once, but 4 times in ten years. And now whinge in the background about a lack of resources. Thick as lard some of them I’m afraid.

Great post. Their romanticising of the NHS now after their attempts to starve it into collapse is shameless

Everyone knows Corbyn is terrible. It doesn't mean Boris is good, or handling this situation well.
