Yeah that’s how I remember it. Great bit of business!

Really as a club, 20 yrs ago we looked down on Burnley a town similar to Barnsley. Now we’re happy our great players get to sign for them. Wtf went wrong?

Yes but we had no right to look down on Burnley (if anyone ever did). This is a club with a far more illustrious history than ours who used to be a fixture in the First Division until they fell from grace. I'm glad they bounced back. Being a similar sized town to Barnsley doesn't make us equals as football clubs.

20 years down the line they might be selling all their best players to us. Sport isn't set in stone. Not quite yet anyway. That's what keeps people interested. One day it will be our turn.

History tells you what used to be. It isn’t any reason for how things should be or are.

Otherwise the Roman Empire would probably still be going strong.

Edit: completely agree on you about not looking down on Burnley though. But more to do with the fact they are a much much better club than us right now. Never mind history.

Massively ahead of us in so many regards. Nothing to be ashamed of. They're run fantastically well and have never got over-excited when relegated from the big league. They've stuck to their guns. Made an absolute fortune over the last decade and are, if anything, a real blueprint to follow.

    Proper club.

Give me that over a Wednesday, Derby, Leeds, Forest etc approach where ***** or bust seems the only plan.

I'm not saying historical records count for everything. If they did then the Sheffield clubs and Leeds would still be massive, wouldn't they :).

I know that the right now is more important than the past but there is nothing wrong with admiring a club's pedigree. In the 1960s Burnley had cultured players like Jimmy Robson, John Connelly and Jimmy McIlroy. I loved it when we managed to get a player like Robson to come and play for us.

Very very true. Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying I think. Agree with all of that. Although I wasn’t lucky enough to see such fantastic players in the flesh.
