Don't worry we'll offer the job to someone who's gone backpacking in the Gobi desert for 6 weeks and can't reach a phone until August 1st.

Yes the head coach has to have some say, he may not like player A but wants player B instead, that's the way it should be too, we had managers in the past that have signed their mates then the manager leaves and the next boss doesn't want his predecessors squad....but that's where senior management's role should stop at player recruitment and let the head coach decide how he wants to set us up and have autonomy of how we take to the pitch.

Who would want it? Seriously? Up and coming manager will see this season and the sacking of Collins when 5th and think no thanks. Established Nathan Jones types will steer clear for same reasons. One of the many reasons why its a shambolic decision.

Unless they've sounded someone out ahead of next season there is nobody obvious or available/ out work who's realistic that fits in how we operate.
I'd like Wellens, wouldn't be opposed to McCann but both could be in the same league next year and may look at as a hiding to nothing, they'd both also cost compensation just don't see either as viable, leaving us probably going unknown from abroad, unless Disco gets into the playoffs then wins them he suddenly puts himself in pole position.

Really. It’s a potential stepping stone. Val Duff and Struber all went on to bigger jobs in recent times. An ambitious up and coming manager would back himself to be in that category rather than the Schopp Poya and even Collins position

In that case he deserves sacking. Although I do have my doubts.

There are a number of rumours circulating as to exactly how much say the Head Coach has.

Assuming we don't go up and our first choice for League 1 (Disco) doesn't want it, put your money on Jon Stead!
He's already here so no need to waste money on an extensive search/interview process.
He's been watching Collins **** things up so will know what needs doing to put it right.
And he's already got his training kit.
Seriously though, why not? He couldn't be much worse than some of what we've had in the past.

I'd also be interested to know who signs the players when we don't have a head coach in place - Shepherd, Lopata & Killip all signed before Collins was appointed.

Same here, for instance, going back in time, I don't for a moment think Duff wanted either Cotter or Shaw in January 2023 given that they barely featured under him.

Hecky gave an interview after Rotherham stuffed us 4-0 in preseason in 2017 and he was spitting feathers. One of his claims was the first he knew about some of the new signings was when they turned up for training.

Add watters to the list, all the footprints of Khaled all over that signing.

Watters joined permanently after Collins was appointed although I doubt Collins had much say in the matter.

I don't mind the signings being done by committee as is clearly the case here to avoid situations such as where Hill signed his favourites, but the accountability when it goes wrong should clearly go beyond the head coach. That doesn't seem to be happening.

The gaffer has the final say *while he is at the club*. If we sign the squad for next season on June 30th and the new manager on July 1st, that statement is still true but he had no say in who was signed.

Tbf, that’s what Wilson did with Viv Anderson.

Even John Dennis confirmed it became obvious pretty quickly that Danny was the one who would be the better manager.
