Considering the number of "big" games we had at the back end of last season, I'm surprised by that. The ground was reasonably full against Derby, Bolton and Wednesday last season, and good attendances against Portsmouth, Peterborough and Plymouth. The number of season ticket holders must have jumped after Wembley last season.
I reckon it was the abject season previously under Schopp/Asbaghi that dragged attendances down. We are probably back to a normal level now.
It will reflect increased season ticket sales, which are counted within the attendance figures regardless of whether the ticket is used on the day or not. If there was a publicly available 'number of people through the turnstiles' figure, I suspect it would be lower this season than last, as an average. From where I sit in the East Upper I've seen bigger gaps in the Ponte this season than I recall from last year, so I assume there's a similar pattern visible the other way around too. A lot of those empty seats are counted within the attendance figure as someone has paid to use them, but not done so on the day.
Sarnds abart reight 12,000 is abart our limit could'nt fill it when we were in Prem, if i'm not mistaken we averaged abart 18,449, gorra admit 12,000 in league 1 is outstanding, gold star awarded to the all fans, well done.
18449 in the Premier League season. Not sure what the capacity was then though. Obviously we didn’t have the North Stand.
The ground was sold out to season ticket holders, other than for about 200 tickets that were available on matchdays. Most away teams took up their full capacity too, with possibly Wimbledon being the exception. From memory the old Spion Kop end held about 1,800 people once it became all-seated. The attendances in that season were pretty much the full ground capacity at the time.
Having a London address that season I sat in the away end a few times. Wimbledon. Soton & Palace spring to mind. Much easier to game the system at those clubs back then, much harder to sit on your hands as we won all 3 of those games if memory serves......
It's been pointed out numerous times that it was sold out in the Prem with STs, the club had to have a few hundred tickets for sale on the day. You had to be there before lunchtime to have a chance of getting these.
Yeah the 'stats' are not true.. with the bulk of the STs renewed when we were on a roll under Duff..last season. Season tickets counted as attendee's are not a true reflection of what is actually going on..
