in fairness I watched “Dodgeball” with my kids last night. They were as fairly liberal teenagers/tweeneagers disgusted by some of the stuff that was supposed to be funny in the film. It just reminds me how far we’ve come in 20 years and how easy it can be for people my age to have not moved with the times.
I'm very much of the opinion that it is the intent behind what is said, not the words used. There are many people in the generation above mine, who use words no longer 'fashionable', who are not racist in the slightest, who get labelled as racist for the words they use, yet the words they use were the politically correct words for most of their life. I am also of the opinion that eventually we'll get to a stage where people will recognise intent, and the actual words used won't matter. I'm already there with my friends. We wouldn't be friends if any of us were bigoted. If we use language that isn't the most modern it doesn't matter, and if we use humour it doesn't matter.
Absolutely Spot on. Intent and context are everything. Not to recognise either is lazy or ignorant. Now **** off.
