BFC: "Hello is that the supporter's trust? Just to let you know, we've had a letter from the FA. They've taken the 1912 FA Cup off us". BFCST: "That's fine. Thanks for letting us know. Ta-ra".
Ian, wasn't there also some bizarre story when Airdrie went bankrupt, so the new owners bought out Clydebank, transferred their membership to the new Airdrie United, and closed Clydebank down?
Yeah there was something like that went on. Cant be sure of the circumstances. A wee bit of a guess here but did Airdrie not fall into admin and at the same time Clydebank folded and the New Airdrie United take their place in the league. Airdrie now back known as Aidrieonians FC. Also back in the 60s I can just remember Clydebank being known as ES Clydebank. Something to do with East Stirligshire FC. Strange one this because East Stirlingshire were based in Firs Park Falkirk. Only in Scotland. From Wiki. The club was formed in 2002 as Airdrie United, following the bankruptcy of the original Airdrieonians.[3][4] Airdrieonians had finished runners-up in the Scottish First Division in the 2001–02 season[5] but went out of business with debts approaching £3 million.[6] The collapse of "The Diamonds", as they were known due to their distinctive kits,[7] created a vacancy in the Scottish Football League (in the Scottish Third Division). Accountant and Airdrieonians fan Jim Ballantyne attempted, with the help of others, to gain entry with a club called "Airdrie United" who were essentially to be a reincarnation of Airdrieonians.[8] Their application however was rejected as the then English Northern Premier League side Gretna were preferred by league members over the new Airdrie United.[9] Airdrie United then went on to complete a buy-out of the ailing Second Division side Clydebank[10] and with SFL approval the club was relocated to Airdrie,[11] the strips were transformed to resemble that of Airdrieonians, and the name was changed to Airdrie United. While this means that the club is therefore officially a continuation of Clydebank it is almost universally accepted as a reincarnation of Airdrieonians, with Clydebank having been reformed by suppo
One of the saddest stories for me is that of the demise of 3rd Lanark. I've seen pictures of Caithkin Park when it was full and it looks incredible. Next time I'm in Scotland I'm going to visit what's left of it.
Merde only 2 weeks ago there was a BBC Alba program broadcast all about Third Lanark. Its on BBC iplayer just type in third lanark. Great watch. Huge club in its day with a good non sectarian support and all went Pete Tong with the aid of a dodgy and very bitter owner.
Many thanks for the heads up Ian. I can usually access it through a VPN, though it can be a bit jerky. I'll definitely be giving that a watch.
Leaving 250 Clydebank supporters disappointed. Any chance of you explaining that bizarre comment a bit further up?
250? Did you count them? Sorry but I would not even begin to try to explain as I do not know enough about it to make any comment. Tell me why was my comment as you say "bizarre"
Your concerns over what might happen. Don't worry yourself. History books will not be changed. Barnsley won the FA Cup 1912 FACT. It won't change.
Hmm possibly have but you do have previous of talking in riddles. Anyway I don't really care for your unfounded concerns.
You've quoted yourself. I assume you meant to quote me? There's no riddle abart it. It was just a light hearted comment on how seriously football supporters take the history of their club. You must be too daft to understand it.
