I would argue that for us to play championship football that a stadium is part of the entry criteria A scoreboard isn't.
Money is being spent making the structure of the west stand safe. Waste of money? Not needed at all, the club meets all league requirements without the gable ends of the west stand
Times have moved on. Clubs like Barnsley have to maximise revenue streams in order to increase the playing budget as much as possible. £50k for a scoreboard that is actually visible would not pay a Championship player for long but if it enables say £150k in revenue it might just help. It is actually possible to suggest how things could be better off the field and it not be a dig at Hecky or the players. Although you'd think not from reading this forum...
Doesn't that depend on the cost to buy and erect it? One of the issues was that the installation costs was going to be similar to that of the screen due to the structural issues in the area where it's currently situated. Other options also had their own issues. My understanding was that when the suggested revenue from the screen was looked at vs the outlay it didn't make a lot of sense financially
I'm glad that we kept consistency. The old scoreboard was an embarrassment the new one is also an embarrassment. Not that I'm especially bothered either way as I never look at it. The financial arguements I know little about though it seems strange that pretty much every other small town club looks to invest in a decent scoreboard and this generates funds whereas we don't. Maybe Barry's biscuit fund I'd already too full. As a side note a mate of mine stopped paying for his in ground advertising at the start of last season told the club he had ended it. We still display his advert ... In terms of a crowd funded one Super T why not ask the SLO's to approach the club and get it started. I will kick summat in.
Changing the subject but still on the penny pinching theme. I think we have a couple of tin pot dugouts, look at most clubs and the have tiered area with padded "recaro" seats, again covered in sponsors logos. I see ours as as a couple of second hand bus shelters with a few canteen chairs. anybody in the back has no chance of watching the match. Again this wouldn't cost a fortune and the subs would be able to get on without having to run off a numb arse.
The figure given by Ben mansford was ridiculous though and cannot possibly have been correct, that was backed up by a company who put in a quote to erect the structure claiming that their quote was nowhere near the price stated by ben
No but the gable ends could easily be removed to prevent any risk of falling. Why waste money rebuilding? The action is on the pitch
I am not party to the quotes and cannot tell you any exact figures but Ben mansford repeatedly and publicly stated a figure which was a tough rounded up figure, I know that a quote from a company involved was significantly lower (again I know only a thought rounded up figure). Also Ben gave a cost for a the SCREEN alone which was significantly more more than a quote given to Gordon Owen after he did his own research. The quite given to Gordon Owen was from a screen the same size as the best that Manchester city have.
