Was in Park Road fish and chip oil about 1/4 to 2 when a team of Hull supporters 2 men 2 women came in and got chips and fish bights heard them outside said they were spot on so they do know a good snap when they get one.
Standard song up and down the land to whoever you’re playing. Never liked the song myself as most places have their good and bad with cities having more extremes. The fact that there are building sites wherever you go these days shows that there are dramatic improvements being made with loads of new homes. As for Barnsley in particular being a shithole then once the town centre has been renovated, the spicehead infestation been eradicated all the current housing projects completed then you’ll be hard pressed to find a truly bad area.
A couple of months after the Tour de France came to Yorkshire, (which, let's be honest, made us all proud to be from Yorkshire) we were on holiday and got chatting to a very well spoken couple. The woman asked where we were from, and as a proud Yorkshireman, answered "Barnsley, South Yorkshire ". Now this is normally the point someone replies along the lines of 'Baaaarnsley??!! Flat cap, Whippet, Eyup...', but she just said, "Wow, you are so lucky, all that beautiful countryside. My boy has to catch two buses just to find a patch of grass to have a kick about with his mates". I've never been ashamed to be from Barnsley, but that made me even prouder to be. Even a major lottery win wouldn't prize me away from my town.
I know when I went to Plymouth the fans I got talking to said the shots from Oakwell look really nice with the fields in the background
I just find it hypocritical people slur other places on their worst parts but laud their home town on the best bit they perceive. All things considered I would never choose to live in Barnsley.
Without doubt you are an intelligent person, and I respect that my club is also your club. However, to come on a Barnsley forum and pull the town down seems somewhat dim to me. Yes, we have our scumbag element. Tell me a place that doesn't. But we have rivers, lakes, beautiful countryside, the Trans Penine Trail, Young Nudger...all this and you can buy a nice 3-bed semi for £120k and a pint of beer for two quid. Oh, and people give you the time of day, you know, that old concept of stopping and speaking to each other. I was doing so well here, but sod it, you can shove your London right up your ring piece!!!
I love living in Barnsley and I've lived in a few places. I love the fact that you have so many places to walk to from my doorstep with the dog, the fact that the cost of living is so cheap, the fact there is an affordable football team to support that's easily accessible to town, the sense of community. But the fact that people perceive it as crap hopefully means we'll keep the green spaces for a bit longer!
If you’re going to ignore that Barnsley has large areas of **** hole, you have to do the same of other places. so people really shouldn’t be getting uppity when criticising other places if they can’t see the many negatives of my home town.
That probably explains why you don't recognise the beauty of open fields, woodland, lakes etc. Forgive me if I'm wrong but east Dulwich doesn't have any of the above does it? Just rows upon rows of identical streets
Know a bloke from Sarfend, born in Geenwich, comes up here regularly to see his Girlfriend, asked him what he thinks abart Tarn.............fakin love it.
