Police will step up their investigation into Fleetwood manager Joey Barton's alleged assault on Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel this week. Sportsmail understands Fleetwood players will be interviewed by South Yorkshire Police officers, who are investigating the alleged incident that is said to have erupted following Barnsley's win in April, in the coming days. Barton was arrested in connection with a racially aggravated assault following an incident that saw German coach Stendel require emergency dental treatment after the row outside the changing rooms. The Fleetwood manager, however, 'emphatically' denied the accusations in the aftermath of the alleged incident. The outcome of interviews with Barton's players should provide police with vital information regarding the incident as they continue their investigation.
Sounds a right shambles. It’s taken ages for anything to be done & now they’re wanting to interview players who are probably scattered around on holidays or in different parts of the country with their families. Couldn’t all this have been done in April & early May?
Can think of 1 or 2 gaffers of mine I'd like to have got put away. Like owt else they will be replaced one way or another. Wouldn't have had a problem given his history.
Of course not. The football season is when the bobbies earn their overtime. Cant be wasting time on pesky police work.
I m not sure I'd be able to remember much detail if I want directly involved after this length of time.
Apparently also charged with a racially aggravated public order offence, in addition to the racially aggravated assault incident. He's got form for previous public order offences which hopefully will be taken into account. Love to see the summons he's recieved. My mate once got his collar felt for relieving himself in a shop doorway when we were on a weeks all lads holiday in Blackpool. The charge went something like, " causing offence in a public place so as to compromise Her Majesty the Queen, her Crown and dignity."!! Don't know why it didnt just say " causing offence by having a gypsies kiss on the public highway." That's what was more or less read out when we all went back to court in Blackpool with him. Fined £50 and bound over to keep the peace for twelve months.
