Sorry to hear of your experience Jay, I hope your scars - both physical and mental - heal quickly. But what a sad indictment of our society today when those who are sworn to serve and protect us - actually dont give a ****.

I just wonder what the police's agenda actually is these days? Whatever it is they're up to it certainly isn't anywhere near the public's perception of what they SHOULD be doing. Theres a total disconnect between the service we expect and that being "provided".

What is the purpose of 101 and 999 when the majority of calls are routinely ignored? Do we really need a do-nothing police "service" at all?

Sorry to read about you being assaulted and robbed Jay. Hope you recover quickly and have no lasting damage. So sad you can’t even go out alone to get a pizza in Barnsley Town Centre anymore it was never that bad when I was a lad

I've just read this thread and feel incredibly angry, things like this shouldn't be allowed to go without some action or follow up, it seems that it's not the first time it's happened either. I hope you have the strength to push this with the police further as it could happen to someone else who may not be as strong as you. All the best, keep us updated if you hear anything further. We all have friends and family who would be out in town like you were

That is terrible. No-one should be unsafe on a night out. Hope you recover quickly. Really sorry to hear about this.

Having read the thread so far I want to send my best wishes to Jay, I know that replacing stuff is a pain in the posterior but I am glad that other revellers tried to check on you.
I feel rather guilty about my insistance of walking home from town now, almost always unaccompanied. It's all well and good saying "The day I'm scared to walk home in Barnsley I might as well move away" but this have given me pause. Perhaps I out a few quid safe for a taxi from now on.

That's shocking Jay. Sounds like it was a premeditated attack. They might have been watching you from the moment you entered the pizza place. Do they have CCTV especially covering the outside?

    What a horrible read,

All the best Jay and I'm sorry your complaint to the police resulted in nothing. Shower of cnuts.

TBH over the last 10 years of visiting Barnsley I always considered Barnsley be a reasonably safe place. No different from anywhere else.

I won't put Barnsley down over this but obviously there are cowards about.

Quick recovery mate. And I hope the **** who did this are apprehended.

Really fukced me off has reading this. As someone who knows and has drunk with you in town on occasion after a game, really sickens me to hear about this. I know your hair is appalling (I wish I had hair to be appalling) but Christ, really bothered me has this.

I had my teeth literally kicked in about a year ago now, in town, so I know this kind of thing happens. But your story of events is worrying.

I hope to see you before the end of the season pal for a catch up.

So sorry to hear about all this. Hope you recover very quickly.
I haven't been in Barnsley town centre for over 20 years but from what I hear it has become a bit of a mess. What is just as disconcerting is the dreadful response from plod.

This is sickening in a number of respects and the police response is depressing.

Hopefully you are able to recover quickly and the cowardly cnuts that did this are dealt with somehow.

    ******* hell Jay.

I hope today you’re feeling better, but that story is horrific. What’s the ******* world coming to?

To go through that awful event for a few quid, a pizza and a phone, what are people thinking.

Sometimes this world needs to stop spinning cos I want to get off.

I hope they catch the b4st4rds that did this to you, although it seems they’re not interested. Their complete lack of empathy or the danger to your life that’s happened it’s abhorrent.

If someone smacks someone around the back of the head with a blunt object then they should be done for attempted murder, because that’s what is likely to happen. It could have been much worse than what’s happened.

    I’m gutted for ya mate.

    @Jay

I think this is worth a mention. I was in A&E with the missus on Friday night (nasty infection and she was admitted but doing okay now), and at about 1am a young lad came in with his face a mess. Can't have been older than 20. He had been jumped and mugged in the Alhambra subway also while eating pizza. Again relieved of phone and wallet and pizza.

Just wonder if it could be same culprits. He was adamant it was two Roma gypsies that got him.
