Technically NHS was introduced by Labour, but the concept was created by a Liberal and was asked to look into by a Conservative.
The only reason Labour take the credit is because they won the first election after the war.
All 3 parties ran with it in their manifesto, the irony being Labour were the least definitive about it.

I completely agree TM, the personal abuse from some is totally unacceptable and completely contravenes site rules so you have to wonder why site admin don't act. It underlines once more why reasonable political discourse is impossible on here.

Thurnscoe and Goldthorpe have always been **** holes like Lundwood and Kendray. The difference is they are now full of smack heads whereas 40 years ago they were **** holes full of hard working miners.

Exactly. Said it before on here, being against the policies of the Israeli government does NOT make you anti semitic. If that were the case I'm anti British. And I'm British.

Wrong I’m afraid . It wasn’t a liberal initiative on the scale the Labour Party wanted it and Tories May well have looked into it as a vote winner but that’s as far as any of them went .
ONLY Labour made it happen rest was hot air and vote catching .

    Which bits wrong Marlon?
Churchill (Tory) asked Beveridge(Liberal) during WW2 to look at creating something for the country to look forward to after the war. Beveridge came back with his proposal. This was voted on and 97 Labour MPs defeated it by voting against it.
After the war all 3 parties ran with it in their Manifest but only Labour did not go into detail.
Labour won the election and introduced it.
So which bit did I get wrong?

Was he having meetings with hamas without the government knowing? Yes.

Was he not known for being Gerry Adam's best mate and refusing to denounce the IRAs actions? Yes.

Does he refuse to tackle the anti semitic problem within the labour camp? Yes.

The man is a disgrace and luckily the country sees straight through him.

Yes the doctors refused to buy into it: they demanded autonomy. Up until the NHS everyone had to pay to see a doctor so no they weren't enthusiastic. They did succumb but only on their terms. They would be free to do their private work too, which still stands today.

It wasn’t an NHS as we know it that is why Labour voted against it .
The NHS as we know it now was on the labour agenda long before Churchill’s vote catcher which as many historians say would never have been implemented once he had power .
The liberal idea had private doctors running the dept which labour wanted a govt dept and ministers responsible to answer to the voters a move the Tories have been trying to shake off ever since .

They were against the labour version of the NHS and as Nye Bevin said I had to stuff their mouths with gold .
Because labours manifesto from many years before promised a NHS Churchill along with the liberals tried to implement their version , a version by the way which the Doctors were agreeing to in principle so says a lot about the type of NHS Churchill were promising , Thankfully our forefathers didn’t give him their trust and with good reason imo.

We shop at M&S and the local farm shop. Dunno what that says about us, but the snap’s great. I haven’t bought a newspaper for years. We get a free Chronicle sent to the office, so I read what Doug’s had to say. But other than that...

Not a bbq fan. Usually involves sharing my quality free time with folk I wouldn’t generally. Bit like works doo’s. Always a couple of folk there who id happily strangle, not drink alongside and talk small.

    No.

    No.

    And no.

Not sure how any of that affects your life in Goldthorpe either.

I’ve commented on one thing which is that you said he’s against Jews. That’s a blatant lie. He’s been supporting Jews since before I was born.

There’s a better thread than this that details further things he’s done in favour of Jews in the 80’s & 90’s but I can’t find it at the minute.

Hasn’t he axed about 90 members of the party for anti-semitism? That’s hardly doing nothing about it.

    The actual truth.

Trying to stop the hatred **** on here. I'm on the left, but I don't hate fellow Barnsley fans on the right, unless there is a racist or homophobic element in their posts.
Let's try & think a bit. I know I've been guilty too in the past, hence me saying this. If, as most of us seem to be, WE WANT TO SAVE IT (copyright Y Nudger), let's see what Boris does with the NHS. If he lies we need to all step up. I personally pray for a Labour government, but I also want us to be a bit more cordial.
