I appreciate the opinion, but it's not the point I was making, the official establishment put the message (backed by virtually the whole of the media) that it was nothing to worry about...you'll notice that the Govt leaflet makes no mention of political or monetary union, despite the fact that Heath signed up to it two years before...I think I'm right in saying he did it with no Parliamentary debate on the issue...safe that it would be passed later by a whipped 100 + seat majority in the house. Even the term Common Market was an invention of the pro EC side..again I may be mistaken but I don't think the term was used anywhere else in Europe, it was just a subtle smokescreen for the British public...like the term they used to describe themselves ' Marketeers'...all designed to give the impression it was only about trade.
For those too young to remember it was a different world in so many ways...if you didn't happen to see the relatively short debate live on tv at half nine on a Tuesday night....that was it...no repeat...no video...no youtube or catch up, you didn't get to hear the core, you could only read the newspaper reports which as I pointed out in an earlier post were 25 to 1 in favour of the Govt's Market case.
They were fully aware that few people would want to ditch the pound as it would have been detrimental to the case, that with hindsight, is why they decimalised us saying it was just modernisation, I may again be suffering from failing memory but I do not think anyone in Govt told us it was preparation for a single currency.

On the bottom of this leaflet, it says UKIP, Nigel Farage, and Kipper Nonsense Just wondered if Kipper Jackson as joined up with UKIP and the lieing Farage because it sounds about right.

You do realise tariffs are set by sellers and not buyers.
We can’t just decide we want tariff free buying from the rest of the world. Deals need negotiating.

And even if you genuinely believe that great deals are out there to be had...

Just have a think that all our deals with dozens of countries will be negotiated by the same idiots who have taken 3 years to negotiate naff all with just one organisation.

Now in my view it takes a certain kind of special to put so much faith in something that looks so unlikely.

a tarriff is usually set by a government or trade organisation to protect their own products/manufacturing,

for example, in the early eighties Ronald Reagan set a 50% import tarriff on all japAnese motorcycles because Harley Davidson were on the brink of extinction, do you genuinely believe that Honda or Kawasaki slapped on their own tariffs to reduce their competitiveness in the USA?

The reason 'naff all' has been negotiated between the eu and the uk government is because neither party wants the current regime to end,Britain is THEE second biggest contributor behind Germany and there's no way do brussels want to lose our contribution (or any other member states for that matter) and this is reflected in their hardline stance and their current offer which more or less keeps us tied in.

It takes a special kind of person that thinks a seller will set a tariff in a foreign country that will ultimately restrict the product they are trying to sell,

The UK imports more from the EU than it does the rest of the world, however we export more to the rest of the world than we do the uk, to suggest there arnt any deals to be had is pretty naive , practically everything we get from the eu can be sourced from the rest of the world , including food and medical supplies, it may surprise you but the medical conditions we endure here and also affecting people outside the eu and these people , just like here, do get access to drugs to help their condition.
