Brilliant - one of those 'advertising doesn't work' fellas.

I find it absolutely fascinating that the worlds most successful companies spend billions of £s a year on advertising when all the morons on FB claim they have never been affected by any of it. Why don't all those successful business people realise that they're wasting all that money.:D

Sure someone will correct me but I’m sure I saw a program once about where certain guidelines were put in to control TV ads as early ones were found to be sending subliminal messages?

Ooh look - you did it all yourself...
Who told you the treaty of Rome says differently?
Because you and I both know for a fact that you never read the treaty don't we? I mean - if you could interpret international treaties you'd know that place names begin with capital letters

    You're welcome!

You are correct. The vast majority of our cod comes from outside the EU. It comes from Iceland (15% in 2016) and Norway (70% in 2016), which are members of EFTA and part of the EU Customs Union and Single Market, so we don't pay any tariffs on them at the moment. Once out of the EU, then we will pay tariffs on that imported cod. The current WTO tariff on Cod is 12%.

What about sausage? Will there be a sausage tariff?
Hopefully not because if Cod's going up 12%, sausage is the future. With chips, curry sauce and a buttered teacake. (No currents, obviously, that's a fruit teacake and isn't up for debate)

I could be wrong Scoff but I think you may be mistaken...I don't think Iceland or Norway are in the Customs Union, nor is fishing included in the Efta/EEA arrangement.

My apologies for the earlier post. They are in the European Economic Area, which has a tariff of 0% on all fish imports to the EU. See Table 2 in the below link.

The Official No leaflet in 1975 told you it was going to be a political union.

For those interested, the official government pamphlet from 1975 is http://www.harvard-digital.co.uk/euro/pamphlet.htm

And many of the campaign leaflets are https://digital.library.lse.ac.uk/objects/lse:wuj639vib

Most of the No leaflets warned about closer political union. So it is not as if it wasn't warned about at the time.

WTO rules don't mean you have to apply tarrifs.

WTO rules mean IF you apply tarrifs they have to be at a certain rate - so 12% on cod if that be the rate.

So in the unlikely event of no deal - we could still import cod tarrif free.

current UK guidance states that import duties on fresh fish of the species Gadus Morhua will be 0% in the event of a no deal brexit - like that will ever happen.

I'm not sure whether I've been affected by subliminal advertising or not.
