Doesn’t matter really - unless it upsets other members of the team - and clearly we need to get the right price - plus we need replacement/s. £1 million is peanuts in today’s transfer market.
His presence alone was enough to make defences sit up and listen imo. They know all about him and put players on him which has freed other players to take advantage. Just hope whoever comes in gets the same respect as Tom and ties up players or scores goals because they haven’t done. If so we will continue to dominate the division if not it’s a measly second spot lol
With the circumstances to be fair, I understand fully why he wants to leave. Still think we should be after at least an extra 500k for him though. You cant put a price on a goal-scorer these days.
I understand that the club don't have much option, but £1m feels far too low for a striker who Millwall clearly consider to be Championship quality. It's not a speculative punt on an untried raw young lad from the lower reaches. Bradders has already proved that he can score at Championship level (I reckon he'd have had even more goals last season if not for the the lack of service and the fact that he played the lone striker role in too many games). But good luck to him if he goes. He's never given us less than 100% and deserves the opportunity. Hope it works out for him.
Just to put the fee into perspective. Kayden Jackson scored 16 goals in League two and went to Ipswich for a reported 2 million.
He’s not a top scorer though, is he? He did well at Walsall but less so with us. You can’t fault his work rate and the threat he poses but he just doesn’t score enough for me. Take last night for example; goal on a plate for him late on but he heads it down and there was a defender on the line to make a comfortable clearance. A natural predator would have buried that. He’s no Sam Winnall that’s for sure.
Unfortunately contract length plays a big part in the fees though. I am sure Jackson had more than 1 year left on his deal with Accrington. Bradders only has a year left and clearly wants to move down south as that's where his other half lives so we were stuck in a crap position. We obviously didn't want to sell due to his importance but we have to sell now or he will just walk for nothing in summer. Just hope we have someone lined up to come in quick.
Would have been fair enough if we had sold him in the window now it’s closed seems a very poor decision as we are unlikely to be able to replace him with any sort of experience or proven quality until January. Now it’s just daft.
It may well be that Bradshaw finally did put in a transfer request, and Millwall may well have upped their bid significantly. We have to replace his workrate, but i'd hope whoever comes in can link better with Moore. Bradshaw has played five games this season and tried his heart out.... he has one goal to show for it, but hasn't had tonnes of chances. It may be Stendel thinks over a season that strike partnership isn't as creative as he wants. I like Bradshaw but over 2 seasons (and a handful of games) he's scored 20 goals and often not been first choice. Like some have said, he doesn't create chances, you have to pick him out about 6 yards from goal. I can understand why he wants to go, personally, financially and career wise, and I can understand if we have a replacement that we'd rather take £1m for an out of contract player in the summer and reinvest it. If we don't have anyone lined up then I'm worried about our forward options (though Stendel may see Hedges as a player to bring on). On a side note, I'm going to be interested to see when we try and get players signed on new terms. Davies, Moncur, Jackson, Cavare (though a year option), Mowatt and Hedges all out of contract in less than 12 months.
Or maybe we couldn’t confirm his replacement until now, hence the delay?? We can still loan or sign out of contract players........
So your plan is to play a CM in the striker position. A lad who comes off the bench for us? Moncur doesn’t have the natural fitness levels to fufill the counter pressing system Stendel likes our team to do, especially not as a striker who has to chase down lost balls and put pressure on defenders and the keeper. Say what you want about the comparison between Bradshaws and Moncurs footballing ability but their retrospective work rates nullify that. Definitely need to replace Bradshaw with another hard working striker.
A former work colleague was a part time scout. The main criteria for signing any player, was they wanted to play for the Club he represented. For whatever reason, if Bradshaw doesn't want to remain at Barnsley, as far as I'm concerned, whilst I would be disappointed, the best compromise for all concerned, is to allow him to move on. Having a disgruntled player in the squad, does absolutely nothing for morale or team spirit and can be a negative vibe. The team look to be together and are playing for the coach. Anything that could destabilise that situation needs to be avoided at all costs. So long as we bring in a decent loan replacement, he can go for me.
