Not really no. He was a bit part / fringe player for the best team in a very poor league. He was never trusted / athletically able to be a regular starter at Celtic. Most of our squad would be stars at every Scottish club not called Celtic & most are good enough to be fringe players there. & some shocking players have got lots of caps for Northern Ireland so I'd disagree. The talent pool is very small.
I think you underestimate the Scottish league speak to Arabian Ian who goes a lot. I'd say no one else in our team would be anywhere good enough to get anywhere near enough to Celtics squad with the possible exception of Cranie. He has undeniably played at a higher level than any of our team it just doesn't fit your argument so you try and belittle it. The only other player in our squad who has played in the Scottish league Jimbob was turfed out of Celtic very quickly.
I'd argue the opposite that you're overestimating it but it's all opinions. Look at the Celtic lot that joined Boro & McDonald aside they were pretty awful. I wouldn't read too much into O'Brien leaving there as a youngster. There's lot of examples of players not fulfilling their potential early on in there careers. He made it into the SPL team of the season the season he joined us so he was clearly capable of playing for them.
I've seen a fair few games from the SPL and Celtic are Championship standard, the rest League 1, standards in Scotland have fallen over the years.
I didn't actually mean Jimbob but is Jim an international or has he played in the champions league or does he won any senior medals that I'm unaware of? I don't see Jim has a toiler he has ability just not enough to perform consistently well in the championship. In terms of Jim (in fact if his ability matched his effort he would be my favourite player) I like him as a squad player for his endeavour and attitude if not his quality. If we go down he will shine if we give him another contract against weaker opponents. He won the game for us as much as Cranie who passed to him or Luke Steele who pulled a couple of excellent saves in the first half did. A cynic might say he cost us recent games against Wednesday and Wigan but again as I don't blame him when he makes an occasional error I don't overly praise him when he plays well. We played very limited opponents yesterday Jim was one of our better players. It's quite likely that next week he will try hard but be ineffective as he just lacks quality against better opponents or any sort of consistency. I think I've seen every game Jimbob has played for us. I'd say he's been outstanding in about 5 all against relatively poor opponents except for Ipswich earlier this season. He has been good like yesterday on maybe another 10 occasions. Very poor about 20 times and average the rest. It's part of modern football all this build them up and knock them down on a match by match basis at her than taking a long term view.
Thank you for your considered reply (I also agree that Steele and Cranie contributed to our winning and clean sheet, but I've never heard them called toilers which is why I didn't name them personally)). Can I ask who you did mean then?
Being at a celtic and having a medal doesn't make you fantastic though - if you're at celtic it's pretty much given you'll get a medal
Get Paddy to think he's playing at Ibrox and then you'll see this side of him lol
He made a few challenges like that against SWFC at Oakwell, including a half decent challenge in the build up to our goal. Oh, and I hope I NEVER heard the word "Fenian" at Oakwell, we don't need to lower ourselves to that level.
