Just announced their record transfer. CB Kalas from Chelsea for 8 million. Another club throwing everything at it to get that shot at the big time. I can’t see the dwarf lasting long this time around unless he gets off to a flying start, hope it all goes tits up for em spending way beyond their means. Hope they’ve spent up now tho and stay away from kieffer. An interesting stat on this transfer too is the lad has spent 9 years at Chelsea and only made 4 first team appearances. Crazy.
They are selling Adam Webster to villa for 25 million, they sold a left back for 13 million too I believe. They aren’t doing bad still even after spoffing 8 million on this lad
25 million??? Surly not. I totally forgot about the transfer of their left back tbf. So basically some clubs just agree to any old ridiculous sum? 25 million for a championship defender is scary numbers.
Even with a eight million buy they still spend less than they make. They got 7 million for Aden Flint last summer as one example.
Yet some people will let moore go for 3 million respite roofe from oxford going for that three years ago.
His career statistics are utterly bizarre. I assumed he was a youngster but he's in his mid 20's with over 200 appearances for various solid clubs and a full international, yet he's only ever been Chelsea's player.
Yeah true. He’s actually an experienced Champ and International defender. Was at City last season so they know all about him. A higher transfer fee, but not too crazy considering his relevant experience.
Obviously i'm not a fan of Little Lee, but they do seem to have taken the Cryne "plan" and adding bells and whistles to it... I suspect what they are now doing, is what our current owners hope to do, but without the initial cash injection, so a more organic version. Bristol City have sold a fair few players and got some very serious coin. So if you're selling someone at £15m and buying someone at £8m... you've subsidised a good amount of wage for a contractual period. The issue would be if you have a fallow period or have to write some signings off. I suspect there is some pretty hefty debt from the initial outgoings (maybe offset with some asset capitalisation), but they seem to be generating significant transfer fees incoming of late.
That illustrates very well why it's imperative to keep hold of him for at least another year. Because with a year of Championship football under his belt, he's likely to be worth far closer to £12 million than six. Hence a year at £10k a week, for example, is an absolute no brainer from our side.
and we give em away for 2-2.5 million - this is where BFC go wrong time after time. They seem afraid to ask for big bucks. Like what Cryne said about don rowing on Stones when everton came calling with their paltry offer 'we dont know if anyone else will pay that'. Absolute tosh. We spend all this time and effort scouting bargains, spend months, years and loans training them up to then give them away to the first or second miserable offer when there are bristol and portsmouth etc managing to get proper value out of their dealings. Its just disappointing.
I love threads like these, where folk that have never run a football club talk like they know how to run a football club.
I’ve never run a Range Rover dealership, but know if the guy across town is selling his new evoques from £32k, I’m not about to sell mine for £6k.
As much as I rate Pinnock, you can’t compare his value to every defender in this division without any substance.
