Best.....Allan Clarke...someone we had seen tv and played for England. Took over a sleepy down trodden fourth division side.....and set the wheels in motion, smarten us up and we had a hero.
Allan Clarke was the catalyst to everything we did in the late 70s and have carried on to the present day. Barnsley's best ever signing!!!
Higgy for me as well - one of the best players we've had. Probably part of one of best ever strike forces
Allan Clarke without a doubt . Massive name in football at the time , it was the equivalent of signing Wayne Rooney at the present time . Besides his personal stature he made us what we are today with the ambition of the then Chairman and Board. Before him we were a falling club with our best times behind us .
Wasn't Hume deemed a bit of a marquee signing, at the time? Probably more so for the price tag, but I seem to remember it being a big deal. Not really a 'bums on seats' signing, but Jason Shackell was a big signing too.
Jeronimo morales Neumann. Has to be amongst the biggest names. On a serious note Clarke. Hunter. May. King Ronnie. Maybe the best but maybe not seen as big a Marquee signing the late great Paul Futcher.
