They're playing at Radcliffe's ground which has a capacity of 4000 mainly standing. It's about 2 or 3 miles from gigg lane
If he thinks like me mate. I've always had a soft spot for lower league clubs. And wish the diehard fans get to see success at a bigger level. We at Barnsley ( fans) of my age have tasted the lows but have had some great highs also. One of the most used phrases I hate with a passion are "the big clubs ( eg Newcastle) and their loyal fans being the best." Some of them have never seen lower league football. Would love to see how loyal they'd be if they dropped down the leagues.
I wish them all the best. Fans are fans & I hope most stay loyal to the team. The man who put them into this situation is the lowest of the low, but I hope they can rise up again. It can be done & I'd expect Bury to be either in the 4th tier, or the 5th in 10 years & I hope that scumbag is in the grave. We are not exactly happy campers ourselves with the new ownership. The big issue with us is where Mr Conway has gone. An inspirational man of the people has become the football equivalent of Lord Lucan. Our new CEO is even less visible, which is bizarre. You do start to worry in such circumstances, although we do at least to have a viable business model, if for a League 1 team, that may occasionally get back to our second tier home, before selling off most of our best players for peanuts. It could be worse I suppose, but I doubt such a team would be averaging 13K at home games for long. I remember 3-4K under Iley in a similarly unambitious era. I don't think in the short term it would come to that, but 7-8K is likely, if we don't bounce back next season, which is not a given.
They're both in the league below, actually. They would get promotion to the NWCL. EDIT: Never mind. I was wrong. Not sure what happened there. My apologies. EDIT2: We were both wrong. They are in parallel leagues!
Good news for Bury fans but, as I've said before in response to "fans suffering" comments, this was always likely to happen. Clubs nearly always reform and gravitate back to somewhere near their natural level. If you're a real fan of the club it should be irrelevant what league you're playing in and I'm sure Bury fans will have a whale of a time going to new and quirky stadiums all over the place and seeing their team climb through a few leagues in quicktime.
As much as I'm sure every Bury fan would rather turn back the clock and be a solvent league club, they could be about to embark on a magical mystery tour that if managed correctly, could yield some great experiences and fun. I hope it works out for them, but I'd imagine it would have to be quite continuous success to keep enough momentum to see them back at a good level. I did hope they could stay at Gigg Lane mind. That is a proper football ground.
Newcastle have been relegated a few times in the last 50 years, in 1981 after relegation they averaged 16,001, I seem to recall us playing them at Oakwell and there being "a spot of bovver" on the terraces This site is a goldmine for settling attendance arguments https://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/englandcontent.htm
Great News. I actually drink with a Bury fan and he asked me earlier if I'd be interested in going to watch them in their first game next season regardless of what league they may be playing in. Maybe 8th division on a public park.
Probably a great way for fans of other teams. To go In support of the Bury fans. Would be a touching response. I was at selhurst park for Wimbledon’s last game. ( v tarn ) Talking to lots of wombles before in the pubs. Was awful what they endured. Great to see those fans back having their own identity back and even sweeter when they overtook MK Dons
A recent investigation has revealed that the Bury FC owner Steve Dale having bought the Shakers for £1 in 2018, didn't have sufficient funds to sustain the existence of the Club and therefore any action taken by the EFL, would not have had any effect on the eventual demise of this once proud Football League Club. To me, it begs the question , if he didn't have the funds, how come this was not revealed at the time his application to take the Club over was first submitted and was it wise to allow it to be sold for such a meagre amount of money.? It's OK to blame the owner, but it looks as though the FA/EFL were also complicit by not ensuring that the new owner would be unable to cover the future running costs of the Club. I’ve been running a project at Shelley FC in Huddersfield. It’s that league that Bury and Isle of Man will come into. Emley also play in it. Shelley are in a great run at the moment though so could potentially get promoted. Most of the teams are Greater Manchester/ Liverpool/ Lancashire based.
Only time I have ever been involved in a fight at a football match was when Newcastle came - I guess it was 81 Me and a mate were walking to the ground just past the Brewery when a Newcaste "fan" came up to us and asked where the Away entrance was As we started to explain the yob just punched my mate - who obviously punched him back and laid him out. Then a van pulled up with his mates in so we legged it sharpish. Not been a fan of them ever since. Only other clubs I have seen launch unprovoked attacks on fans minding their own business are Cardiff and Millwall - but fortunately I wasn't targeted in those.
