This latest bout of Racism and how to solve the problem reminds me of when I worked for the Tracky in the 80s.. I was sent out to do a school run in Bradford... As usual there was all the shoving and pushing and the problems we drivers got with school buses ... the kids like most were argumentative. Noisy arguments about . Who were sitting where who were going upstairs who had to sit downstairs I had it all. Pakistanis falling out with Indians White v Black Black v Pakistanis White v Indians the full race card
Teachers pulling their hair out trying to sort it out... Complaining it wasn't their job they were there to teach not stand on the door of a bus being bouncers in a roundabout way...
By the end of the 2nd day I'd had enough of the fights and fall outs.. And thought something has to change.. I was sick of hearing About which colour reigned supreme and was having the top deck
So on the 3rd day I turned up got out of the saddle ( drivers seat) stepped off the bus and to the teachers dismay I addressed the crowd of kids with my solution to what was to me a racial problem...
I said where I come from in Barnsley we don't have this racial tension therefore it's alienated to me no doubt Barnsley folk and a lot of other people from similar backgrounds to myself wouldn't understand the problem
Personally I see past the colour of skin and treat everyone the same unlike you lot who are at each others throats... Its got to stop and its ending here today if you want to travel on my bus.. I paused
The kids went quiet the teachers thinking I had done speaking give me around of applause
I continued.. This argument of which colour sits upstairs which colour sits downstairs is over... There's only one colour on my bus do you hear... The kids nodded in agreement
RIGHT THEN.... In my eyes.. Today's colour is green... Yes Green.. And in answer to who's sitting where the solution is as follows
Light greens upstairs dark greens downstairs... End of...
I turned and got back on to the bus and left them to it...
