Actually yes. As yet I'm undecided on his abilities as a manager but I found him refreshing to listen to and far more interesting than most football managers.
I never cease to be puzzled at the adoration heaped upon the large dwarf particularly following his spell managing the Reds by people who have not seen him perform week in week out. In today's Mirror, Stan Collymore says " Lee Johnson will be in the spotlight again tonight when his Bristol City take on Manchester City in the League Cup semi-final second leg. And I will be left wondering why he wasn't in the frame for the Watford job.? He's a Premier League manager in waiting, whether with Bristol City or another club and I just wish there were more gambles and risks taken by owners of top-flight clubs." In my opinion if he had remained in charge of us instead of jumping ship for Bristol, in all probability we would have been relegated. We were in a rut and Hecky's appointment was the catalyst for the amazing run we went on thereafter.
His win record seems to be 34% Oldham, 43% Barnsley and 45% Bristol so is improving as he moves up the leagues. Look forward to seeing where his career goes. Not sure if he’ll be a premier league manager, or slide back down the ladder. If I was a betting man I’d say he’ll get a chance in premier league. Took us from 17th to 12th and a JPT final. Not spectacular but the football we were playing when he left was some of the best I’ve seen in recent years. Hecky built on that and improved us further in my opinion. I’m sure holding onto bitter resentment is healthy for some people, but I’ll settle for casual indifference. Polite to talk to, unlike a few others in recent years, and seemed a nice enough fella who most at Oakwell are complementary about.
Chester were within a whisker of knocking us out at Oakwell. We were abysmal and I had to drive back to chester that night with four of their fans in the car who relished telling me how crap we'd been. As for Bristol City not fighting for promotion. ?.how does lying fifth not count as that when us being just outside the play offs last season counts as being all but promoted in some people's eyes?
He (LJ) irritates the **** out of me. Every club he's ever managed goes through 'best run in 50 years' 'worst run in 50 years' cycles. I hope Man City hammer them, they'll miss the playoffs too - mark my words!!!
Did Chester knock us out? The answer is no. Johnno gave us the most embarrassing result in most supporters lifetimes.
