I've not posted for a couple of weeks for this reason. I'm weary of the same predictable few vilifying individuals who, whether they're good enough or not, are doing their best. I've put one of them on ignore though I still have to endure his comments if I read the site without signing in. Hopefully I'll feel more inclined to post again because there are those on here who have interesting and valid contributions to read but for now those who would rather shatter a player's confidence than build it up can indulge themselves without my input.
Because I'm tired of the negativity. Adam Davies was excellent in Division One. He was fine last season. This season he's out of form in a team that has lost all confidence. I don't know if he reads this site or not but if he does god knows what it does to his self belief. There's ways of criticising. Purely slagging off and suggesting that you hope none of your money his gone to his wages etc is just pathetic. Davies has done a good job for us in the past and doesn't deserve the abuse. I reckon there's a few people on here who are perfect at their own jobs or who, alternatively, wouldn't object to people who can't perform to anything like the same standards sitting at the next desk and repeatedly telling them how f***king useless they are.
At least you don't need to worry about where your money has gone! Your comparison doesn't work. Your colleague you that you are crap at your job would probably be bullying in the workplace. That's slightly different from a footballer being criticised on an fan's forum. In any case, after such a calamitous error, I am sure Davies would be expecting to come under quite a bit of criticism and that it is the nature of the industry he is in.
He wasn’t fine last season at all but better than this by miles I’d suggest conceding soft goal after soft goal is more damaging to his “self belief” than reading posts on the internet. Or at least it ought to be.
We've had the conversation before about whether players should read a site like this. I'd agree, they'd be better not to. I'm sure lots don't. I'm equally sure some do. If the constant, valueless criticism has just a 1% negative impact on the odd player is it worth devaluing an asset of the club we all support? I'm not saying players should be above criticism. But as long as a player is putting in the effort he deserves any criticism to be balanced. Davies is our best option in goal I reckon. We can back him or belittle him. I know which I'd rather do. He's still young for a keeper. If we stay up by all means get in someone to really challenge his place. If we go down we should do likewise but I'd be more than happy to see him in goal in League one.
For me we need a new number one regardless of division. Backing him on here is not going to stop him costing us points just as “belittling” him on here isn’t. It’s another meaningless phrase. It’s hard to tell if a keeper is trying tbh
Davies is a very good goal keeper. He's had a couple of below par performances this season but you get that when most of the team are struggling.I for one didn't fault him for either goal on Friday.
A couple? He’s made mistakes for over 15 goals we’ve conceded this season. In his last 3 games against Fulham, Norwich and Bristol he has arguably cost us 5 points. He has made errors in all 3 which have directly cost us a goal.
I think all goals are questioned when conceded but to me the first was a beauty "Hammillesque" if you like and the second was just too high for him.Like I said yesterday if he was 2 feet taller he would have saved it.Anyway lets hope for 3 points tomorrow and a clean sheet that would certainly improve every ones confidence.
I've watched Bristol's second equaliser repeatedly. All I can suggest is we sign a seven foot tall goalkeeper.
Problem is, if he'd been rooted to the line and Brownhill had headed into the bottom corner he'd have been criticised for not cutting the angle down....very easy to snipe.
