So by the same logic, selling out of all the kids replica shirts almost instantly and having non left for the open day and weeks afterwards was a success

What I'm saying is unless you know. The marginal costing of 1 programme you can't possibly say whether or not it was a good move

What you can do is speculate.

I'm. Speculating that those furnished the marginal coating did the appropriate. Analysis and made an informed decision. On how many that should purchase

No mate your saying that the club estimating how many items they need and then selling them all will be deemed a success. Which necessarily true, they could be kicking themselves that they could have sold a lot more.

Why on earth have you started a new thread on this

Without knowing the marginal costing you can't possibly know the answer

To be fair, its true what he's saying about the speculating bit.

We as fans don't know how many they usually print and sell, and how many of the special one they printed and sold. Fall all we know they may have printed 10 times more than usual and still sold out ahead of time(bit of an extreme example there, granted).

As with most things of this nature you order in certain quantities. And with 24 previous programmes done, you have data in front of you showing you how many sales per game, against how many you ordered, then you look at the crowds of each game, the attractive (or not) nature of the game, likely attendance of the upcoming game, the size of the away following, and so on and so on. You have to assess all that and pick your poison.

It's very rare we don't get it perfect. The special edition Rimmo copy sold out, and that was very difficult to predict if I'm honest.

But on Saturday's edition, I think two factors caught us out.

We always have some in the Club shop on Friday's. And with there being literally a thousand or more folk buying season tickets that day I'm guessing we flogged a fair amount of copies.

And the attendance was better than expected.

But aye, it's a mistake. We should have ordered more by the looks of it.

We're trying to get more in-store.

But in the grand scheme of things I'm glad the edition was popular as we really enjoyed putting that edition together, a lot of hours went into it as usual and we all felt it was the best copy of the season.

    Cheers.

Got to say I think this is a bit harsh. Surplus stock is losing money. Selling all the stock isn't.

With regards to programmes, I bought one on Saturday for the first time in about 6 years. I hadn't really planned to, even though I was aware of the special edition (I have a loft full of old programmes and I think they cost alot), but my daughter asked if I'd get one so she could look at the stuff from the Premier League promotion. It was a very spontaneous purchase, I'm not sure how many people did the same thing or how the club could have predicted it. The attendance was about 2k more than I expected.

Just not comparable to the replica shirt mess up at all in my opinion.

I seem to remember that in the bad old days of administration, that one of the examples of not living within our means was that we had kept the print run of programmes at the levels when we were filling Oakwell during the turn of the millennium. Thus the number of programmes printed was reduced to same money. I think we may be living with this legacy. Certainly the club shop is not so well stocked nowadays, what impact this have on turnover and profitability will be difficult for the club to know and such as us can only speculate on. I do not see it as making a huge impact on our competitiveness on the pitch.

I have a confession to make.

As it was a special edition programme, I bought 5,000 copies under the impression that they'll be worth much more if the future.

If you want a copy, drop me a PM and I'll put one to one side for you for when I'm ready to sell for £25 in 15 years time.

    Cheers.
