Cardiff have had an initial bid of £1.5M rejected for Woodrow, I’m hearing that the club are wanting £2.5M, It’s looking like another player going to be sold on the cheap.
What is he worth? Can only accept what people are willing to pay! Scored 6 goals in 21 games in the League in 2020. Hardly prolific! He was a star man playing for reds under Stendal. But when Struber moved him back in to midfield role, goals dried up. Intelligent player, not blessed with pace but has good strength movement, and a decent finisher. I hope he stays and new coach/manager helps him redescover form and goalscoring we saw playing in forward role under Stendal.
Went 11 games without scoring back end of the season. And just 1 this term. A penalty. No doubt under new coach form will return. But no sure we can start demanding big money for player not currently in form.
Correct, why is it we seem to always seem to sell our better players at bargain basement prices?Othe clubs eg Peterborough,Brentford etc can show us a thing or two about how to get value for money for player sales. And as you said what would we get for the 2.5 million that the board always put back into the squad like they did from the Brown and Struber monies.........Oh I forgot they haven't
If you want £2.5 million, you have to ask for 5 million. That’s how negotiation works - both parties have to move from their starting point by making concessions. This suggests we will accept about £2 million, which is an insult.
Dane said no more 1st team players will be sold. So that’s Woodrow gone! And probably for less than £2m
This "But when Struber moved him back in to midfield role, goals dried up." and this "But no sure we can start demanding big money for player not currently in form." Then why sell? hes our leading scorer last season and this...and played correctly a 1 in 3 striker in this division. Good players dont become bad overnight.....theres always a reason. The cost of a ready made replacement is not something i like to think of.
Woodrow is worth more than £2.5m to Barnsley. Once a centre forward is brought into the squad -this player will again blossom into the player we know he can be.
Agree! We should fight to keep him. We know what he is capable of. Only reason for him to leave is if he is demanding to go. But in terms offers. My point being why would anyone offer big money ?
If we sell Woodrow for under £3 million we have had our pants tugged down. He's a proven Championship scorer. Struber's formation didn't seem to suit him well. A new manager that plays with more width & if we could get a more physical, Moore like player alongside him (or Chaplin / Schmidt) things could look a lot different. We need to strengthen, otherwise it could be a very long season. We have some great talents, but not a great team / squad in terms of balance & having a plan B when we need it.
Because they believe they can get him on the cheap. We need to either hold out for an appropriate fee or hold on to him. With two years left on his contract there is no pressure to sell. He is worth at least 5m. 2.5m is ridiculous. If he wants to go we need to make a stand on that as well. Time to put the club’s needs first
I absolutely hate “we can only sell for what people are willing to pay” then don’t sell him! I know that’s not our way and the owners arse falls out when they are offered any money however. the talking him down has started above, Woodrow is a massive player for us and is worth more than money to this team, just like Moore was. Both might not be the best footballers in the division but the value to Barnsley is incalculable. tell Cardiff it’s 15 million If they want to talk.
Probably in a small minority with this view but "a decent finisher" is not at the forefront of his skillset in my mind, unless he is taking penalty kicks in Rugby. He has put countless shots over the bar leaning back and his conversion rate of goals to chances has also been poor. Didn't Schmidt recently show how it could be done picking his spot and stroking it home instead of blazing it high and wide. I do remember Woodrow scoring some crackers in his early time at BFC but for a long time now he has looked anything but Championship quality and playing out of position should not affect his shooting when he does get chances albeit he does get fewer where he is playing. But that only goes to emphasise his poor conversion rate. Not saying he isn't a decent player buT I am not really a big fan.
We haven't a plan A at the minute. I expect Woodrow and Mowatt to be sold now. Some token players without Championship experience to be brought in the hope they might eventually step up and to be relegated by Christmas. Nothing that the owners have done this window gives me any confidence that we will be competitive this season. No wonder Struber left. Any senior player with expectations of being successful in maintaining Championship status will be looking for another club.
Given current stats. We’d be lucky to get anywhere near £2.5m. I just hope we keep him. Let him play under a new manager that can play him to his strengths. ( he may be glad to see the back of struber) and then we may see once again his true value.
