CM James Carvell was signed for the U23s from Derby. Impressed during pre-season.

We could play a Dimond 442 with Morsey infront of the back 2 and ryan williams behind the front two.... I know we won't but we could.

And we were so close to re-signing Diego Leon.

Josh kay appears to have been impressing in the 23's

Is he the stockyish lad we signed at the back end of last season, or am I confusing him with someone else?

Ignore, it's actually Jak McCourt I'm thinking of. He came in well fancied due to his physical attributes. We did sign 4 central midfielders in about a week though, Kay being one of them.

Charlie Harris was one of the others, but he got released the other month.

I'll be honest, people have suggested Yiadom to play the CM role next weekend, and they will probably be right. But i would rather us keep a settled back 4, and give someone like Josh Kay a go, throw him in at the deep end, and see how he gets on, it might be a baptism of fire for the young lad. Otherwise it's just a pointless signing, along with Charlie Harris etc.

Couldn't agree more. We'll only know if these lads are good enough if we give them a go.

I know size isn't really always a barrier (messi etc) but I would be surprised if this lad is more than 5'5 and 10 stone. He is absolutely tiny.

If he was playing wing or in a second striker role fair do's but CM in champ just think he would be run over.

He is talented though in the u23 game I saw.

Carvell not played in the last few U23 games. Not sure he would throw Bird or Kay in. Williams came on against Brentford and played in central midfield, so I would imagine he would start, with one of the kids on the bench

Yes you're spot on in that regard, could do with bulking up a bit. I'd be more comfortable putting a youngster on over shafting someone like Yiadom there though.

Agree that it's likely Hecky will play it safe by playing a more experienced player.

That said, of the u23s in the CM role, who do we have at his disposal; Bird (who has been on the bench the past 2 games prior to Brentford), Kay (has been promising by all account in u23s and rumoured to have trained a few times with first squad) and Carvell (has undoubted technical ability but may not be an out and out CM)?

Of all three, who is best suited? Anyone seen them all play who can give an opinion? I haven't seen any of the u23s this season.

I reckon Hecky will move Bree\Yiadom to central mid and White/pekawa to left back.

Did he really treat ryan williams that bad? He was injured mostly from what I can remember..... George williams fair enough. Treated adam davies poorly at times. Said ch couldn't play in a 2 man midfield. Stuck with nytanga instead of roberts. And played ssw out of position. Shouldn't need a team talk.

He repeatedly made comments implying that Ryan wasn't injured but instead had mental health issues. He said a few times that some people are just not able to play through pain and that there seemed to be nothing medically wrong with him other than mental barriers. He played him whilst injured after publically stating those things and potentially made his injury worse. An operation and proper rehabilitation later and Williams has now played in 5 matches (including 4 under 23 matches) and seems to be getting his career back on track.

Fair enough didn't know that like I said some players don't need a team talk. Shame connor couldn't play and show him he can play in a 2 man midfield in the league above to a very good standard.
