Firstly RIP Chris 100% footballer who gave his best for Barnsley and the other teams he played for after us. So sad to lose someone in this way. Secondly it is becoming increasingly apparent that lots of people on here are suffering from mental health issues but whereas in the past this would be hidden away it seems that people are happy to admit to suffering from this terrible disease. Taking that into account would anyone be interested in setting up a meeting/ group for Barnsley fans perhaps with some help from the club to try to tackle this. Personally I would love to be involved however I have no experience whatsoever I'm just a Good listener and hopefully a caring human being. Any thoughts?
I have struggled with my mental health for just over ten years. This year marks the 10th anniversary of when I actually tried to do something very silly. In the time that passed ive got married and now have a gorgeous little girl. I take medication daily which helps but ive had a number of dips mainly due to factors outside of my control usually relating to work. Folk call it the black dog, I call it treacle. When it happens i'm weighed down and engulfed by it. Sometimes without warning and it takes a while to trace why it happened. Usually bottling up of something triggers it, sometimes a panic attack can also trigger it. I'm happy to be added to the list.
I think that’s a great suggestion. Given the club’s support to the mental health campaign in recent years, I’d be very surprised if they did not get behind something like this.
Would it be worth setting up the group via Andy's Men Club? I notice that they've got a group being run out of St Johnstone FC.
If people would be interested in pursuing this idea please drop me a PM (or reply here if you are happy to do so). I will speak to the club via the Trust/SLOs to see if there is something we can put together.
Cheers Jake. It is crippling and something I've fought for 30 odd years. And also the reason I came into this line of work to help others and try and turn it into something positive.
If the club are willing to allow us to use their facilities to set up a group, I'll happily make contact with Andy and see about how they set up groups etc. I know the hardest part will revolve around GPDR / DPA issues and this usually gets organisations a bit twitchy.
If the club is unable to accommodate a group, I could potentially get access to a room at Wigfield Farm for free one Monday evening each month.
So very sad to hear of Chris's untimely death. Yorkshire TV have just broadcast a cameo of him when he was at Oakwell after scoring at close range. A very nice tribute has also been posted on You Tube. Collective thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this very sad time RIP Chris Barker.
Rip decent player and also sent like a decent bloke. Horrific news love to family and friends! Sleep tite Chrissy
