Anyone ever approached the club for a reduction in cost of a matchday ticket because for whatever reason they can't afford the full price? For a family with 3/4 young children going to Oakwell it's not a cheap day out and if the parent(s) are on a low income it would be impossible. Would or should the club help out here?
Nope, I don't think they would or should do that. Would create a divide in supporters. However, I think they should have a 'family ticket' 1 adult 2 kids, 2 adults 2 kids, 1 adult 3 kids. Maybe 40 quid, 50 quid, 45 quid in that order.
I approached Tesco for a reduction in cost of my food bill. As a caring, non-profit making organisation with the well-being of humanity in mind, they were sweetly receptive to my suggestion.
60 years ago when I was the kid it was at the discretion of the turnstile operator. "Crawl under lad" was the procedure or "lift him ower"
It's a shame they don't have concessions for students, though I suppose most would be covered by being U21. Personally I think they should increase the concessions age to 25. And I say that as someone over 25.
On the old terrace in front of the main stand it used to be concession for under 14`s. My dad made me bend at the knee to get in until i was 17.
U12 season tickets are a fiver, buy 3/4 of them and go when ya can afford it, least then ya only buying a adult ticket
I spent the last 2 years on a very low income and sadly I've just had to pick and choose games where it was financially viable. Would love to have attended more but it simply wasn't possible with the price of modern football. Got to prioritise the important things. Fortunately starting to look up a bit now though.
There are families struggling financially through no fault of their own who can't manage any extras and with many parents not wanting to let their children go unsupervised, going to Oakwell may well be out of the question for many families. There will be many empty seats at Oakwell for some matches next season - there are folk out there who can't afford to go...…..
It's unfortunate, but it's always been like that. There have always been low income families in Barnsley and football hasn't really been a cheap do for decades. To be honest I'm not sure ticket prices have really gone up that much recently when you factor in inflation. A lot of the stupid money in the game comes from TV. At the end of the day football is a leisure activity and so a luxury. Prices do need to come down though, I think we all agree on that.
I'm sure we've had this very same discussion within the past fortnight, but how far up their list of priorities do you think going to the football is if they're struggling financially? Are you going to provide them with free travel, food and drink also?
The question I'm asking, and one that you and others are avoiding answering, is should the club make concessions to poor families? (and please don't insult these families by suggesting they all spend money on booze and fags)
I sometimes put empty food tins in the recycling bin without cleaning them out. Edit: I misread the thread title. oops.
Nobody is saying that, stop being so over sensitive. I am saying, as previously, that it would be difficult to assess for the club on an individual basis and I've also said that as someone who has previously struggled financially that it isn't a priority when faced with that situation. Even if the club had given me free tickets, there's still petrol etc to consider- I certaintly wouldn't be better off financially. So my answer to your question is "no". That is not because I'm some "Dickensian" or bad person, it is because what you are proposing is too complex to set up and isn't necessary.
