Would that be the generation that survived WWII, withstood decades of austerity after the devastating impact
of WWII , received poorly funded sub standard public services, spent 50 years working and paying tax, survived mortgage rates of 17% in the 1980's, worked in poor conditions with no pay protection or "living wage", suffered poor access to higher education due to social class barriers and abject poverty, survived the IRA bombings and helped build a stronger fairer, more prosperous society - oh yeah the very one the young people enjoy today !

The result should just be enough to keep the foxes safe.

Fortunately they paid 17% interest rates on mortgages that were a pittence because they were gifted all the council houses by a corrupt government

This is a sweeping generalisation but a hell of a lot of over 50s are chuffing thick too.
Family member 1: complained for the last 6 months that the Tory government is stealing his pension by changing the rules. Voted conservative last night.
Family member 2: Employs lots of foreign workers because he can. Voted for brexit because too many foreigners in the country.
Family member 3: complained for a couple of years at least that the Tory government is making cuts to things that benefit them. NHS that they need now they're old etc. Voted Tory last night.
Elderly employer at work: majority of goods they sell are imported from europe. Voted brexit. Complains that said goods have significantly increased in cost. Loses a large percentage of business because of it. Spends last year complaining about how the conservative government is to blame for losing this section of the business. Voted for last night.

No, the generation born after WWII - the baby boomers, who joined the workforce in the 60s and enjoyed free education, housing, health care and pensions but blame immigration for all the troubles in the world.

BTW, it was a Keynesian Labour government immediately after WWII who rebuilt the lost housing and infrastructure and reduced the National Debt without implementing austerity.

I was being light hearted I don't blame pensioners at all. My original point was that to win an election Corbyn has to reach out to people over 55 and convince them of his arguments.

No the ones who enjoyed the benefits of the post war welfare state created by Labour who now want young people to go back to those days and worse. for some reason. Im from a poor background I went to uni for free. Today I wouldn't go and saddle myself with a 100 grand of debt. My mates daughter is starting a nursing degree. Year one tuition fees of 9 grand and 16 grand in loans. To probably save the lives of people who condemn her to this debt.

Wow - nothing else to comment on ?
Nothing on just how lucky they were to work in poor conditions with many gone before their time - and have had the benefit of free school milk to boot !

What a wonderful easy life those pensioners had compared to the youth of today

I think you are mixing up the younger end of the over 50s with the 80 year olds.

And those born after WWII have enjoyed the same standard of living as the youth of today?

    No don't think so

    Really ? You done a survey ?

My dad worked down the pit and died by the pit .

Lungs full of coal dust - I for one wouldn't wish that on the young of today they re lucky that occupation is no longer a choice

I.,m from a poor background - didn't go to uni for free but my sister did .

My 2 kids have been - one saddled with 3 grand a year tuition fees . The other with a 9 grand a year.
My daughter has continued her studies and is now 2 years away from a PhD in cardiology - she will probably help save many lives during her working life but will more than likely earn above average salary if she stays in this country .

I don't agree withe 9 grand fees but 3 grand seems reasonable to me !

i worked down the pit with many men who were knocking on a bit and were lucky enough to live long enough to retirement,i know what these old timers would say to the pillocks on here that think they had it easy and fleeced the country dry.
i also know plenty that never got to retirement,my grandfatha being one of them, people like him will be turning in their graves if they read the fukin ***** on here.

From the generation that got the lot and then drew the drawbridge up

The generation that hasn't paid enough tax.

What a load of crape I worked down the pit for 50 years not because I wanted to ,but because it was available.I also paid high interest rates on a house I bought privately, pity some of todays young people don't have the same attitude to work.
