Imo we’ve been very disappointing this season on corners , susceptible at defending them and **** at attacking them. The centre backs jog up as if to say if I get on one I get on one if I don’t meh. Marked improvement yesterday when Kieffer came on there was a belief and a determination for him to get in the end of something and imo that’s been missing alll season .
Our players stand far too close to the goal. If the ball gets to them (which is difficult in itself as there is a good chance the keeper claims it) then they have to redirect it towards goal from a standing jump with no momentum. Most of the time this results in a tame header which loops off their head. We need everyone steaming in from the edge of the 18 yarder to attack deliveries around the penalty spot. That way they have momentum and it's a lot harder to mark someone on the move. It frustrates the hell out of me watching crap corner after crap corner when it's so obvious how we could do better.
Well, for me, this has been the best season ever for us scoring goals on the break away after defending a corner. It started on the opening day against Oxford, through to the victory at Southend last month.
Countering the lack of goals from corners, we get an awful lot this season from passes on the ground cut back in to the box from the by line.
Generally rubbish at attacking corners and pretty rubbish at free kicks but that one yesterday has to be the worst i’ve seen all season. Still, it did give us a bit of a laugh.
