When Stokes stood in as captain in 2020 against West Indies he immediately dropped Broad from the team, who rightly vented his frustration on live TV. Anderson is still arguably our best bowler in English conditions but I think they'll have a clean sweep .
Broad was dropped from first test but recalled for last two and we won series 2-1 and I think he was player of series
Stokes is a terrible choice as captain IMHO - a lazy choice by the ECB, probably perceiving it as the popular choice with the fans. Stokes had a terrible time as Captain in the 100, truly dogsht bowling and fielding and captaincy before leaving to take a break from cricket. Firstly, I do not begrudge anyone's need for mental health breaks or for dispensation for it, but it feels like putting an ex-drinker in charge of the free bar - he's clearly a very emotional and impulsive person, doesn't seem to be what you need in a Cricket captain.
The reports were that Broad and Anderson would be getting recalled. Suspect it will be either/or between them during the summer. I'm not sure a captaincy record in a couple of games in The Hundred is much of a factor. Nor do I think having previous mental health issues should exclude him from the job either. I don't know what those issues were, or what treatment he's had for it. It may be that the treatment he's had has in fact made him better placed for the job, than others who for all we know, may also have had their own issues, but not addressed them in the same way, if at all.
All I'm saying is that on the face of it he does not strike me as someone who can lead the team in a level headed and analytical way. He is an extraordinary person for sure, and he leads by example when it comes to training, but his behaviour is erratic and unpredictable (as with many great men). Maybe he'll be brilliant, I do hope so, but I also think England's issues are a hell of a lot deeper then who's captain.
Our geriatric bowling attack needs shaking up. We need to pick young bowlers that are a bit erratic from the Counties. Like they do in Australia. There's a reason Australia have a production line of quicks and it isn't just the pitches. They blood them earlier.
He did well captaining against Pakistan in the one-dayers last year, especially considering it was pretty much a 2nd XI due to covid.
Agreed but can we stop getting injury prone quickies like Archer, Robinson and Wood ? Over their careers, Broad and Anderson don’t seem to had many sick notes !
Exactly. Look at guys like Daniel Sams and Riley Meridith in the IPL. Very good fast bowlers but can't represent their country as there is too much class ahead of them.
https://www.espncricinfo.com/player/adam-lyth-251721/matches Two half centuries in his five county championship innings this season so he's not doing too bad. He does however seem to either get a fifty or a single figure score.
well done malan & brook, pulled us out of the doo'dar saw the early toil, think we was 20odd for 3 after 20 overs on another note, hope the person in crowd is ok, game paused for 20/30 mins
