Just been interviewed on football focus. Stated they had initially refused job as it was a "head coach" appointment which they didnt want, argues that a "manager" role was the only way forward and that is the basis they have been employed on
Was offered 400k three year deal and turned it down. Huddersfield came back and he accepted 1.5 million a year, million compo for Lincoln and the job title changed to manager as he doesn't want those who have never played the game getting involved in picking signings.
Fair play to the lads. I hope they do well as they seem switched on. And they’re right to hold out for a manager’s role. If they fail, they do so on their own doing and nobody elses. But they’ll still need 18months to turn it around. I think the Hudds remit this season was to just stabilise.
That’s all very well and good, but given the average life span of a manger is about 2 seasons, that means the next person through the door is going to say they need to start again, etc, etc. I know that having a tin pot dictator in charge seems to appeal to a lot of fans but it’s not my idea of how to run a football club these days.
I think they were a perfect fit at Lincoln and they always seemed to come across very well. Very ambitious young managers, but I feel they've bitten off more than they can chew with Huddersfield. I dint think many people in the leagieneould be surprised to see them drop down again.
Imagine us last season after just being relegated if in the same game we threw away two leads. Then in the second half we conceded three without reply and we're bottom of the league. They have every right to be annoyed.
Been out for a meal today and my brother is a Lincoln season ticket holder and he’s saying rumour is Lincoln told them to take the job as they wanted the money as the owners (a consortium like ours) have been desperately trying to raise cash in South Africa.
There was something strange about it as they categorically said they werent interested in the Huddersfield job and then a few days later they accepted it. If I were them I'd want to take Lincoln to the championship, it was doable.
Personally, I think it is now far too demanding a job to coach the team and also deal with the transfers. There just aren’t enough hours in the day.
He's been involved in signing, managing and coaching players, so I think his involvement in the playing aspect is significant.
It was interesting to see during an injury break in the game that Cowley was shouting at his players to come to him for a talk, and most of them ignored him, I said to the other half, look at this, they're blanking him. Eventually a couple wandered over and kept their eyes away from him as he was giving them instructions. Strange behaviour indeed
