If they did, they did not go far enough to show the electorate they had a different enough platform. Nor did they fight the outright lie that the global economic crash was the sole fault of the Labour Government...

They're talking about Jarvis now on BBC1, not sure about him as I think he could have been a Conservative or a Lib Dem, I can't see any strong and long link with Labour, he might have had a non-political background but he's every inch the professional politician now.

Government borrowing is very different to personal borrowing. The Tories claim not, a little untruth they pedal to people.

    Yet oddly.... http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/11/21/uk-borrowing-_n_4316084.html

Terrible analogy. Think of it as taking a bank loan to invest in your business, if it goes well you will raise **** loads of money to pay off the bank and buy your mother a house.

Definitely because he doesn't look and sound a bit funny and seemingly that's how we choose our politicians now

Actually Andy, because of the presidential manner in which leaders are viewed now it is how they are elected

How is Mr Houghton supposed to work against the government.

I'm not defending him completely here but if you were a plumber and was given a van full of electrician tools to do your job . Just how would you be successful...

Oh I agree. Proper bugs me that people focus on whether politicians look silly eating a sandwich and then wonder why they're all airbrushed to look the same

No he lost because the then Tory PM contrived to have an avoidable war that rallied her ebbing popularity

Labour desperately needs a female leader if it is going to win enough votes at the next election - either Yvette Cooper or Harriet Harman

That is correct. Was a scary time. I was at 6th form & feared getting called up to fight for a load of sheep.

Here's Patrick Cryne's opinion on Jarvis, via facebook.

Despite legend to the contrary, I am not a political person. But I believe that Dan Jarvis is the best type of politician. Less ideology and more genuine care for the plight of people and a desire to give everyone the opportunity to aspire to be as good as they can be. I hope he gets chance to go for the Labour leadership. And if so, I hope he wins.

And yes, I've replied and said "I always assumed you were a Tory benefactor"

Expect to be blocked in 5....4.....3.....2....1 :D

Dan Jarvis if they want to stand a chance. Not tainted by association, not a product of the Westminster machine, has overcome tragedy in his personal life, has had to make difficult decisions in a real not political battlefield and in this media driven age, looks the part
