Danny will bring back the glory days. I’d give him the job now. No point in even interviewing the rest.
How come he got us relegated from the prem? How come he didn't bring back the glory days in his second spell?
Are you serious? After what happened last time? Either Danny is a worse manager than he was in the nineties or football changed and he didn’t adapt. Probably both. But his last tenure was awful. He took a poor side on to be fair and signed some good players. Or at least ones that became good. But the team under him was woeful. Third time round I wouldn’t expect much better. Move forwards not backwards IMO.
Didn't he bring in a lot of the squad that Johnson then Hecky inherited? I would be interested to see if he could work alongside a new coach in some sort of capacity.
Was responsible for being the first to work with Hourihane, Winnall and Scowen. Three of the best players for us in years.
I'd go so far to say he took on the worst side we've had in my lifetime and had the fight for it. We brought in Hourihane and Winnall and identified Mawson and Roberts to be brought in the following season. We signed Scowen and sacked Danny very soon afterwards as i recall. We played some decent football, but couldn't defend for toffee and as Patrick warned him to keep us above the drop zone, he went more defensive. In my view, he'd have made a way better stab at it than Johnson. And as Jam said, we had lots of injuries that were coming back that Johnson benefitted from. I got the feeling there was no love lost with Danny and Patrick, and I also think a lot of fans wanted him to be sacked purely to get some sad form of vengeance. Was it amazing football with a completely brand new team (lets not forget that, the whole squad was ripped to bits and flogged or released after relegation), no. But it was a good foundation which then Johnson and the departed benefited from. I'd have him back all day long if he's got fire in his belly and is happy to challenge the spreadsheet formulas with common sense as much as is possible. I can't see it happening, but if some of the older heads, and that includes McCarthy depending what he wants to do in future, can be around the club a little, guide and advise some of the younger guys, pass on our history, whats in our actual DNA rather than whats been cobbled together the last year, we can only be better for it.
Danny Wilson; are you all mad? Deary me. He should never have been appointed second time around. It was an appointment based on pure nostalgia and backfired massively.
Guess we will never know the truth of the matter ... Danny also fell out big time with Patrick as did hecky if it's to believed. In some quarters.... wonder if asked by radio dee dar would either one be willing to spill the beans
Can't believe some of the rubbish I hear at times. Danny's second spell was a doomed cause - he took on a poor squad of teed off players with no pace and had to shift the whole lot out and start again. All that takes time - you know exactly the same commodity we were extending to Hecky, who also took on an impossible task. If Danny did nothing more than bring in Conor, Winnall and Scowen, he still made a major contribution to what followed. As for his first spell - simply the best we've had. I'd take him back tomorrow in some capacity if he was interested.
Some may think that, but at the time there was uproar. I recall it vividly as I was in Vietnam when it happened and was refreshing the board every few minutes. I even recall a poll and the majority didn't think he should've been sacked. There was also immediate uproar when Johnson was appointed as we'd just played Oldham before and they'd been dreadful. As i said in another thread, I can't see it happening, but he inherited crap and started to sort it out. I don't think any of us regret that we signed Hourihane, Winnall and Scowen and had identified Roberts and Mawson.
