The CH signed by DW was a million miles away from the CH that was sold to Villa. LJ played a huge role in that, imho. LJ pushed CH to improve and mounded him into a viable CM at this level. All credit to LJ as far as I’m concerned.
You're having a laugh, surely. LJ didn't know what to do with CH and openly stated he couldn't play in a midfield 2. I would give more credit to Cryne than LJ. It was only when Cryne effectively told LJ that we were signing Hammill that LJs hand was forced on formation and we saw the real CH. I would go as far as saying that LJ would not be where he is now if Cryne had not "suggested" we sign Hammill.
He has made a career out of our promotion to the premiership. And I think he is a decent bloke but his best days in management are past.
CH came out of that situation as an all round combative CM. Cryne didn’t want to sign Hammill, as far as I’m aware.
Did you get a programme on Saturday? In hammills memories of Patrick it sounds as f it was Patrick's idea to bring him back tbf.
I enjoy the revision of history. Would that be the Conor Hourihane that scored 7 goals in his first 10 games winning player of the month and was player of the season and top scorer. Credit to Hecky who revitalised him after a period where Johnson had done everything to undermine him with such gems as he can’t play in a midfield 2 ( despite him having done so when he finished Plymouth’s top scorer and player of the season previously). Johnson. Never managed him or coached him in the Championship.
I wasn’t there on Saturday. I’m not stating that it’s a fact, it’s just my reading of various pieces that I’ve seen, been forwarded and heard over the years. Excellent call, whoever instigated it. Hammill has been and continues to be a fantastic servant who gives his all for the club and one who really seems to wear his heart on his sleeve (for better or worse at times).
So Hecky revitalised the alresdy exceptional CH after we had already got to the final of the JPT? So from February onwards, three months of an entire season? Rubbish before PH took over was he?
Playing as a winger aye i can’t say that was a good move. The upturn started before that When Patrick told him to sign Hammill and start playing 4-4-2 and things kicked off from there.
Please show where I mentioned February as you seem obsessed with it. Tbf you thought it wasn’t Patrick’s idea to sign Hammill 5 minutes ago...
Just checking that I wasn’t inadvertently dropping months of the year into conversation without noticing it. But yes I’d say Conor’s best moments in a red shirt were in the last couple of months in L1 and Championship under Hecky and in his first season under Wilson and he responded better to a managers that believed in him. That doesn’t was poor the rest of the time. He’s an excellent player. All this is my opinion you are of course entitled to yours.
I wasnt entirely sure who was behind Adams return untill I read the programe Saturday I though either Patrick or james but it became clear after reading hammills page. And I agree love hammill without him they would of been no play offs or jpt final hope he stays on past his contract.
A lot has been mentioned of CH’s goal return on this thread and others but in that promotion season under LJ he actually bagged 8. Post Fleetwood away he scored 3. I strongly disagree that CH’s best moments in that season were post LJ but as you say it’s all opinions.
