Why does this subject have to be a battleground? It's not an either/or situation.
The police on the day were to blame.
The police subsequently covering up were an utter disgrace.
The fact that football grounds were fenced was a direct result of hooliganism therefore hooliganism is to blame as a root cause too.
Hillsborough was a rotting, ill prepared disaster waiting to happen.
Every one of those statements is true and all came together to create a tragic event and disgraceful aftermath.

I was in a very bad crush outside the ground at Millmoor in 1979. Very badly policed, kettling fans and only one turnstile open.
There was a big crowd as the winner faced Man City in the next round. I remember Peter Springett saving 2 penalties that day.
I was nearly unable to breath in the crush (i'd be about 14 at the time).

Police are there to ensure the safety of fans & SYP were not fit for purpose on several occasions.

I agree the entire axe being laid over Duckenfield alone may be harsh, although it seems there is a case to answer against him.
Maybe other charges will follow. Usually the CPS will proceed with the headline case first & if that succeeds they may go against others based on the evidence & outcome of the court case.

because i=over the years i have spoken to people who were there at the time, and had worked previous matches at Hillsborough involving liverpool.

another piece information that never came out was how some 'fans' were urinating on, and abusing the emergency services who were trying to help the poor victims as well...

I'm a bit more likely to listen to the public inquiry than what you read in the Sun.

So you reckon that the suns headline which they have since apologised and admitted was untrue was in fact the truth?

I, like I'm sure most if not all on here, don't know this Duckenfield fella personally, but I have to believe that the pain of knowing a decision he made that killed 96 people must make a spell in prison seem like a cakewalk.

Are you serious, it never came out? I still remember it being printed in The Sun as 'fact' and was eventually proven to be absolute rubbish. You can have your opinion about the circumstances of that tragic day but they must be based in fact and not in lies that have since been wholly discredited, even by the paper who printed them in the first place.

I haven't heard one single testimony from anybody at the game that corroborates this.

I think the authorities who it has been proven were actively trying to pin the blame solely on the fans did a wonderful job of accidentally deleting all the video footage of the fans with their cocks out too

Lying coppers who fed lies to Irvine Patnick, Tory MP for Hallam, who in turn passed them on the Sun who printed them without checking. Editor Kelvin McKenzie later admitted it was wrong to do so.So did Patnick.

The emergency services weren’t allowed in until the reality of the tragedy was beginning to sink in to the aragant monitors who were supposed to be organising safety . And I really can’t believe your story when all the evidence of tv pictures and witnesses in the ground saw fans running with stretchers and giving first aid etc .
All your posts on fact have been dismissed as rubbish by almost every credible witnesses and footage. Your posts are NOT based on fact but by your sheer prejudice of the Liverpool fans in general and it comes out quite clearly on that in the contents of your posts

Imo hooliganism was blamed for the need for fencing but I beg to differ because a solution in most part was found soon after and that solution was a proper police crackdown aided by laws allowing justice to be done .
I say in most part as there’s still hooliganism and it will probably never be stopped along with arrogant and indiscriminate policing .
Fencing isn’t the answer now and it should never have been then imo it was a cheap solution Ill thought out and badly implemented and the consequences were only a matter of time .

I suspect that he is friends with other bent coppers who told him ******** stories to corroborate their false illegal statements and he ate up every word because they were his mates.

    Exactly that .
Everyone seems to have accepted that fencing was needed and everyone going to a football match deserved everything they got .
Fencing was a lazy ,cheap Ill thought out quick solution because no one wanted to interfere with the money tree.
Hopliganism was out of control by inaction of all the Bureas involved .
The call for fencing to combat it was incompetent and is still defended to this day as the only solution which it clearly wasnt
