Not said he is rubbish! But he is nothing more than average. Put the guy up against someone with genuine quality and he flounders and then has a habit of making up excuses as to why. No time for the bloke
He has faced some of the best the cruiserweight division had to offer at the time. He was/is exciting to watch. Unfortunately for a long time the heavyweight division was stale, it's starting to pick up now there isn't an easy route back to a world title, but somebody quite rightly mentioned earlier the fight against chagaev would put him back in the picture. I'm sure he can still bang a bit, and would give the likes of Joshua and Fury a real test. Fantastic time for British boxing at the moment. Long may it continue.
I like Haye as a boxer, world class at CW, and right up there at HW. He's a bit of a gobshite, but a lot of boxers are. Hope he gets back to the top, opportunity for some very decent domestic tussles ahead.
He was a unified Cruiserweight champion & a belt holder at heavyweight. If he's average then I take it you consider no British boxers other than Calzaghe, Hatton & Froch to be above average in the last 10 years because they're the only ones to have achieved more
Calzaghe, Hatton n Froch all top notch boxers as we're Benn,Eubank and McGuigan. They also knew when to call it a day instead of chasing the big bucks when things become tight. Haye has had his day and it should remain that way.
Haye's not back for money. He's loaded, got a load of property. He never wanted to stop in the first place, only did because of his shoulder. Hatton came back against Senchenko long past his best & Eubank was fighting up at Cruiserweight against Thompson when he was finished. Both were far more shot than Haye & had much harder careers. Haye v Joshua would be every bit as big as Froch - Groves 2, if I was Haye & I was back to full fitness I'd be after a fight like that
