No mate, Bell's debut was the week before at Newport... Where he scored from about a yard out. We drew 1-1, a certain young Steve Lowndes equalised for Country.. remember it like it was yesterday..
Ahh yes David Currie made two 'debuts' for us didn't he, and they were both at home to Ipswich lol. He scored all of our goals in the 2-3 and 1-0 games. Craig Hignett had a debut to remember that night against Hudds, when we really could and should have hit double figures. And the dreadful Carl Regan, wasn't he sent off on his debut on the opening day in 2000 against Naarich for scything down their player, but we still won 1-0. And speaking of dreadful debut sendings off, that brings me onto Manu Pingpong. lol
You're right. Well remembered. I came home from Uni for the Wimbledon match. They were top I think and we thumped em. Made a long trip up from Norwich well worthwhile.
Ahh yes Bob Ghoulash, he was ace for us wasn't he ?. Do you mean Istvan 'stan' Ferenchi, and remember his under rated team mate Peter Racszi. (soz about the spelling!)
Yes I think it was against Hull, in Feb (during season 2006-07). Our first season back in the Champship and Hull, along with Leeds, Luton, & Southend were all scrapping with us at the time. For me, Istvan's best goal for us was that curler from the edge of the box, in the live Sky game at Stoke which we won 0-1.
Lee Jones was the goal scorer, also on debut, in doing so showing his shirt name and number to the Ponty...in a who needs Craig Hignett sort of way.
Ahh yes Lee Jones... err sorry who was he ?. lol He didn't stay with us beyond that season did he, a bit like Ian Bryson actually who also joined us (in 1993-94) and left even before the season ended.
Without checking up on that Troff mate, I would never have known that Lee Jones stayed with us beyond that first season. Bear in mind as well that was a sore point for us at the time, the season straight after losing in the 2000 Final at Wembley!. And who was our boss later on after Bassett left.. ohh yes it was Nigel the spanker Spackman.
Yes one of the reasons we’d never have remembered how long jones was here for was that spackman proceeded to sign about twenty more players. Aah happy times... or not. I’d sooner be going into this season than the season we went down to division two, what is now league one, back then under parkin and then hodges. That wasn’t a nice time to follow this club at all. Nearly no club, nearly bottom tier even after that.
Ohh genuinely bad times Troff mate, because remember relegation in 2002 (which was bad enough to begin with..), it led to adminisrtation as well later on that year and I don't ever want to see those dark and depressing times at our club ever again!!. But we're straying from the subject of Bfc player debut's now aren't we ?.
