The problem with Definitly Red (no 'e', btw) is that although he won the Rowland Meyrick Chase at Wetherby on Boxing Day, that race rather fell apart. The second and third didn't give their running (relative to their previous form) and the remaining finishers (four horses failed to finish) weren't very good and were beaten out of sight. Definitly Red has been raised 8 lbs by the handicapper in consequemce of that win, and faces his stiffest task to date. Alary has been purchased from France and sent to the Tizzard stable specifically as a Cheltenham Gold Cup prospect. He has to concede 20 lbs to some of these, but only 13 lbs to Definitly Red. If he is good enough to even run into a place in the Gold Cup he should be capable of making that concession. The trainer already has the three best staying chasers in England (given that Coneygree is sidelined) but describes Alary as "something special". As he is also 9/2 (5/1 if you can find a Paddy Power shop) I'll put him up as a sporting wager against yours - expecially since a few of our players seem to no longer be sure they are 'Definitly Red'!
