I’m not sure they can do that these days. Leeds pulled a similar stunt back in 2004 by going into administration after their relegation had been confirmed. The rules were subsequently altered. I’m not certain but I believe that at the end of the season if WRDC are already relegated by the -9 points then the -12 points would carried over to next season.
Yeah this is why the authorities need to start enforcing the rules and enforcing them early, it’s not just ‘Derby County FC’, a name in a league table that is at risk, it’s people’s jobs and mortgages - it’s negligent to allow this to happen by the owners and the governing bodies.
No surprise at all. Employing Lampard and then Rooney, along with high end players was always a risky financial strategy, even before Covid. Not nice for the fans or employees, but it serves the club right and has been coming for a few years. Don’t think Wycombe will be happy either!
-21 and nothing less should be the punishment. As for fans taking the piss we will continue to do so because it's very funny and would only be funnier if they went bust and had to start again as AFCWRDCFC in non league.
Could be wrong, but thought that was only case if you are already mathematically relegated when the points are applied as it wouldn’t be a punishment.
Would be interesting to see the number of football clubs going into administration across different countries over the last 30 years
It's not the fans who will suffer most. The players will get paid. The staff who depend on the income, the sub contractors who have shelled out money and are waiting payments, who will probably get a penny for every pound owed. This is who I feel sorry for and it is ******* criminal that this can be allowed to happen, and will continue to happen until the authorities do something about it. It makes my blood boil, and pressure must be put on the government ah wait a minute . Don't hold your breath on that one
If they finish in the bottom three without the points deduction then it will be no punishment unless the deduction is carried forward to next season.
Feel sorry for the employees at Derby, but the fans pfffff. Some of the comments on their forums are unbelievable, one thinks that the 9 points were because they were late paying players wages ONCE. Another thinks they should get the original 9 points for cheating dropped if the owner leaves., oh and stuff like they are such a big club and if they go down it might take them a couple of years to rebuild as a big buyer will come in etc
Big club, Big manager, Big star players, Big ground , Big fans, Big egos, Big spenders, Big debt, Big fall. At least when we fall it's only a little one. Welcome to League one with the massives and Sunderland. Big Derby game coming up Burton Albion .
All too sadly the last comment will come true once administration has washed away all the debts. They certainly won’t be left floundering for months on end like Wigan were
Appear to be blaming covid, they'd have been successful if it hadn't been for covid, after all it's not like any other clubs have survived covid is it.
I think there’s only the option to defer the deduction if they get relegated anyway if they go into administration after a certain point, something like March. Otherwise it’s an immediate 12 point deduction.
