Spain Portugal Argentina Germany and Brazil have all failed to win their first game and given we have low expectations and the pressure is already on those teams plus its only a 3 game group.
So would Brazil and Argentina. Plenty of tournament favourites have struggled in their opening game. Good three points tonight and very much deserved as the only side trying to win.
Going absolutely nowhere. Stones, Henderson and Trippier turned up. The rest were garbage. If Harry Kane is the talisman we may as well come home. Raheem Sterling offers nothing when City aren’t laying on 50 chances.
But if Mexico finish above Germany it will likely be the winner of Mexico/Switzerland in the quarters should we get there. I’d rather we finished second.
Thought we played well, poor finishing from Lingard & Sterling but both have had excellent seasons & the link up play in the first half was superb. The criticism on here is way over the top as usual. A few nerves & snatching at chances & a daft error from Walker but should’ve put 5 or 6 past them, more impressive than most teams I’ve seen at this World Cup up to now
Ok. I’ll say it.....there are some total tossers on here who know bogall about football. Excellent win. Kane came of age for me tonight.
If we win the Group we get Poland or Colombia, and then run into Germany or Brazil in the 1/4 final, with France/Spain/Uruguay possibly in wait. Finishing second we still have Poland/Colombia, but then a 1/4 likely against Mexico, and a semi final against Portugal/Argentina. Colombia are probably on a par with Poland, if not better, so the second round game doesn't really matter who we get. I'd take the runner up spot and chance it against Mexico and possibly Argentina.
Not sure about five or six - but I agree with pretty much everything that’s said here. And as for those having a go at Harry Kane - he only scored two didn’t he, imagine how effective he’ll be when he plays well... they played pretty much a flat back five, allowed no space, yet he still bags two. Unmarked. It’s not coincidence. They roughed him up and wrestled him at corners (how they get a penalty for walkers challenge yet none of the stuff they did to Kane was deemed a foul I’ve no idea), he kept going. Took both sniffs without any hesitation or doubt. He’s class, and if he carries on Daniel Levy will have a battle on, new deal or not.
Thought we were pretty sparkling for the first 25 minutes then became increasingly nervous and disjointed. Our movement which had been good became pedestrian and the Tunisians defended well. Our finishing was pretty appalling throughout but Tripper, Stones and Kane all contributed well. Substitutions sparked us back into life and Loftus Cheek should perhaps have been brought on at half time. A mixed bag but a good result. Onwards and upwards.
Was thinking Lingard’s two sitters, Stones left footer in the box, Lingard hitting the post & the two pens we should’ve had, ought to have got a big win really. Bigger concern is we played all our best stuff early on, did we get found out / run out of ideas
Given prior to the game Tunisia were only ranked one place below us and there recent performances, Sterling aside thought the performance was overall OK and positive. Lingered is normally more reliable and Harry Kane is just a new generation Gary Lineker in that he appears to do little but is actually invaluable to the team.
He offered nothing up top movement wise and link up play. Had one other shot straight at the keeper. There won’t be two more tap ins from rebounds the rest of the tournament.
The second was not a tap in , it was a clever finnish , but when you see others squander chances it brings home the value of Kane . Regarding his link up play , there was no link with players directly behind him , Alli , Sterling , Young , Lingard & henderson did not provide any ammunition for him , we looked better when Rashford & Loftus Cheek come on but to find fault with Kane for last night is unbelievable
