Missed potts and a certain...other who can't be named.. Without the board going into melt down... . Just casting ... For a friend that is ... Lol He's having problems selecting bait size... Lol
Was thinking after the Burton game that Lee, Moncur, Berry & Pearson might be having a little snigger to themselves.
Could argue that Moncur's goal v Portsmouth is the difference between us being mathematically up now, and it technically going to the last day. Probably his biggest contribution for us!
I was, and am, disappointed that we sold Potts. Tough luck, though. The method has been well-documented, is not going to change, and my two options are to like it or lump it. And as it stands, the owners, manager, coaches and squad have done everything we could have asked. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth - from me, and no doubt others - when the best players depart. So long as the club is stronger at the end of it, though, it's bearable.
Without going into the rights and wrongs as it's a bit academic at the end of the day but between Potts and Brown we have got 14 league goals and 11 assists - which is a phenomenal return from players who predominantly played wide right.
In hindsight things have worked out great & I’m delighted but I still don’t think it was the right decision to sell Potts midway through the season with 2 & a half years left on his contract. No doubt he’s been coached well & put the graft in but I don’t think there was a single Reds fan who had Jacob Brown down as a first choice, quality winger for us so there was definitely an element of luck involved.
I think that the problem/task is how to balance the moneyball system and when is the right time to cash in on a player and fetch his replacement in bearing in mind that the bigger clubs can buy players just to see if they develope or just to stop others teams getting them
