Looking at Barnsley Football Clubs history going back to 1954 (when I first went to the Pontefract Road end) as a 6 year old boy, it doesn't matter one iota who the Manager or Chief Coach is; just so long as he/she/they toe the owners Party Line. Day One of new blokes tenure: "Listen mate, just Say "Yes", "don't rock the boat", and "you'll be fine son". And that's why our chief coaches are Cráp in general. They have very little power or spúnk. I'll still massively support our club mind as I know no better and have always loved it.
In the big scheme of world events it doesn't really matter who the coach is. We could be living in Gaza or Ukraine. However, if we want Barnsley to do well the appointment of coach is, I would say, the most important recruitment the board do
This new appointment had to get the fans back onside. It just looks like another kick in the teeth to me.
Don't worry about it. Because many BBSers think the owners make decisions based on social media posts, he won't now be our new head coach due to people bairning about the appointment before it's even happened.
I’ve just had a flipping brainwave-don’t appoint anybody! Save the salary! Let the players decide how to play. Genius!!
Isn’t that the way most clubs are though? The board are their employers and have a budget with which to work. The Barnsley job is usually a step up, or a chance to work in England, etc and they sign a contract in full knowledge of how the club works. As far as I know, Alan Clark asked for assurances before he took on the job, but other than that I’m not sure what you would class as ‘rocking the boat’. I’m not sure it’s fair to label our coaches as ‘crap in general’ really. We have had some good ones in between, even Collins broke a club away record and had us in 5th place when he was sacked, then you’ve got Hecky, Stendel, Val & Duff - 3 of which earned moves away.
There were more than a few that were against Collins before a ball had been kicked - mostly because he'd worked in the USA.
That's go no basis in the reality of what I've seen over the years. Good luck to anyone who tried to tell Alan Clarke or Norman Hunter or Mad Mel or Danny Wilson or Harry Bassett or Big Val what to do.
None of them would last more than 1 season at most with our owners in fact the only who had the dubious pleasure of working for them didn't.
