It says to me theyre going to bottle it again and blame the so-called Disciplinary Commission. Its a disgrace that clubs should be allowed to appeal against rules that THEY voted on. The EFL is rotten to the core and I hope Conway makes good on his promise and sues their arses off.
Equally, there are the operational pressures this presents the EFL, in areas such as fixture scheduling in the event any decision(s) change a divisional line-up. In the specific case of Wednesday evening’s final round of Championship matches for season 2019/20, and any potential impact on divisional standings, relegation will be confirmed for the Clubs in 22nd, 23rd and 24th positions in the Championship table following the conclusion of those matches and will be subject to the resolution of any ongoing proceedings. In the case of Wigan Athletic the 12-point sporting sanction, as a result of the Club entering administration, will apply immediately following the end of the game against Fulham but is subject to appeal.
Basically we will get relegated until the appeals are heard. Which more than likely would probably be once the championship starts again next season. Hope Conways got his lawyers primed and ready to go.
It’s simple really. The Wigan debacle falls under EFL’s remit to deal with and the rules are simple. They clarified them early on. Wednesday and Derby issues are being dealt with by the 3rd party IDC as per the protocol. Only until that is resolved can the EFL confirm the punishment if required. IDC clearly have timeframes to work to, but financial investigations are never a 2 minute job, especially when foreign money transfers will be part of it - rush it and get it wrong, and it will be easily appealed. The Bambo Diaby issue is also a 3rd party investigation. However that should’ve have been dealt with swiftly. I can only imagine that Bambo is part of a international drug smuggling operation for professional athletes, as that is the only plausible explanation for the farce the lad has had to deal with since November.
I don't think it's that. It's more that the Wigan punishment has been confirmed so they're allowed to call out that one. We don't know the Wednesday punishment, or if there even is one, so based on the paragraph earlier in the story they're not willing to mention it specifically when it sits with the the 3rd Party IDC.
The Wigan 12 points deduction will come into effect straight after the completion of Weds night's fixtures, but is still subject to their appeal. Therefore there is a chance it could get overturned, however I think that seems unlikely. The other matters haven't been resolved yet and they'll announce the verdict as soon as they know. Don't hold your breath, the decision will be subject to an appeal as well no doubt and any points deduction is unlikely to apply to this season.
Aren't Wednesday's accounts for the last financial year two months overdue now as well? Red Rain? If they get away with this through it being kicked down the road...
It read to me like it was a response to Conway and saying once Wigan has been factored in who ever is in bottom 3 by end of Wednesday night will be relegated (subject to Wigan appeal). In other words SW etc isn’t going to be concluded this Season. Oh and for what it’s worth blaming an external body is not a justifiable reason, the EFL set up their process so have to ultimately keep responsibility. If it’s not suitable either influence it to change it or change the process and/or process.
I take the point that matters are now in the hands of the IDC but cannot fathom the apparent lack of ongoing communication with the EFL as to the likely timescale for determinations. There must be more clarity. Are they still at an investigatory stage or is the body of evidence now being considered? If the latter, how long is it going to take. Far more complex cases than these are regularly considered and determined within timetabled parameters by courts and tribunals up and down the land. It won’t do for the EFL to simply clam up and allow the IDC indefinite time without any update as to progress and the expected date of determination.
