I wqs at the beam back because I couldn't get a ticket. It was actually a really good experience and one I'll always remember. That cross from Disco for the first goal - just wow!
No need to apologise to me HF. Always pleased to hear the views of other BBS users, particularly as I had forgotten about the **** up regarding ticket allocation. Because I was attending brother in laws wedding I didn't try to buy any tickets. Remember that the Premiership season caused a lot of stress. I can recall filling out my form and being on absolute tenterhooks before my application was finally accepted and I could collect my Season ticket. It was in the West Stand lower concourse, whilst my son and his mate managed to get two in the Ponte end. First time we had not sat together at a match, which was disappointing.
We did, yes the allocation wasn’t fair, but Hooky Feller’s saying thT less than 5 k tickets were taken up which is ballax Love how everything’s ‘ fact’ except the main point I said was ballax that is only 5000 tickets taken. We took 6000 to Anfield and we probably could’ve doubled that. Oh but then ,your memory says about 4400. lol.Donny red posted about the great win but some posters wanted to post different things about the day. We all know ticket allocation wasn’t good/ fair. WTF, League cup in 1981 has to do with it?
Was watching it in the guardroom at Weeton barracks with 3 scouse fans who couldnt point Liverpool out on a map never mind Anfield. They were pillocking me all day saying we would get rolled over and "who the **** are Barnsley". Amazing day!
My memory was that less than 5000 tickets were taken up (by the football club my only error if so ) and I've admitted to that . Never said we didn't sell out. My point was we should have taken the fullest amount possible. 20% of the available ground under fa rules I believe at the time. Approx 13.000( Given police permission on segregation grounds). We'd have smashed that amount. Other than that. the other facts are true whether you believe me or not. Your choice. I am quoting what I was told by the main supporters representative at the time who the don consulted. No reason not to believe him. If I mislead you in any way it was unintentional. Your first reply was read in the way you probably misintended. Which was read as .ticket fiasco ******. Never been good at punctuation me. LOL
Forgot. If you read my reply regarding the League cup it had everything to to with it. The don based the fact that we'd only sold that amount in the League cup.and it influenced him not to go for the fullest amount we were allowed for anfield. He thought we possibly can't sell out. Hope that helps.
It was a massive **** up. People were allowed to buy numerous tickets so they were all gone and many season ticket holders missed out while people who never go to games got tickets courtesy of their mates.
In the match commentary on the You Tube clip, it specifically says that there were 6,000 Tykes at the match on that day. Doubt they would announce that fact if it wasn't true. After his display in that game, particularly as it was his debut, Luke Steele should have had the Freedom of Barnsley bestowed upon him. He was absolutely superb.
Pedantic or what . I’ve explained to you that that was my only error. Yet you went on to question other facts eg wtf.league cup. And I’ve explained that twice. For gods sake give it a rest man. You’ve already corrected yourself to others. And talk about spoiling a thread. Think you’ve quite managed that one yourself. Mimic me all you want. If it gives you pleasure.
We had the whole of the lower tier at the Anfield Rd end - that is all any team got in the FA Cup at Anfield at the time. We sold out = 6000 tickets. Yes it was a **** up, but we definitely sold out of the whole allocation.
