The government didn't give the referendum enough thought. Their only concern at the time was self preservation, by dissuading their supporters from voting UKIP at the 2015 general election. A change with such massive connotations should have required a two-thirds majority. We have been left instead with 17 million v 16 million which is horrendously divisive.

That’s true and why were in this mess,
The reason Brexiteers are against the proposals being put back to the people is because their lies have been exposed and won’t work a second time .

A few weeks ago I put a small deposit down to lock in a price for a fairly expensive series of products. After deliberation and research and new information coming to light, and after understanding some of the things that were said to me were actually false, I decided to get a refund and not proceed.

I'm sure there's an analogy in there somewhere.

Why should it require a two-thirds majority, we were taken in with no referendum at all and kept in by one that only required a simple majority...seems unfair to change the goalposts.

Chuffed to hear about your recent refund, I'm even happier that regardless of anything these pro EU fanatics come up with, we're still leaving the EU.

Is that like Nadine Dorries or Nigel Farage, who wanted to be like Norway before the referendum? Or Maybe you mean Boris Johnson, Michael Gove or David Davies - who all wanted to stay in the Single Market? So, if the leaders of the Leave campaign wanted one thing how can you say that 99% of the people that voted for it wanted something different? - or are you talking bollocks?

Before you start banging on about a hard Brexit, just one question for you - are you, or any of your family on long-term medication? If so, you might want to read the small print at the bottom that states the location of manufacture... Remember that the UK is not self-sufficient in Food, Electricity, Gas or the production of medicines and the governments own white papers have warned about issues with all of these.

How many people are you happy to die so you can have your hard Brexit?

Out of those Boris is the odd one out (or just odd)
He didn’t know whether he was a Brexiteer until the campaign was underway .then he had the media camped outside his home until he decided. then came out all triumphantly stating Brexit was the only conclusion anyone sane could adhere to .
He then argued forcibly and scoffed at remainers about a Brexit vote which he couldn’t make his mind up about in the first place.
What Boris was doing and what his sister says he is doing is feathering his own nest
He’s a despicable cretin who isn’t in politics to serve unless it’s himself . TBF to Farage and Davies and Gove although I unequivocally disagree with them their stance has always been for leave . Boris is a backstabber and if ever he gets in a position of massive influence on our country imo he will serve the side which suit Boris

Two-thirds of MPs must vote for a motion to trigger an early general election for example. A higher level of support for something is seen as giving it more legitimacy by those who ask for it. It's common for major constitutional changes elsewhere in the world to demand a two-thirds majority. Incidentally, the result that kept us in the EEC in 1975, was actually 67% to 33%, which would have been a two-thirds majority anyway.

Boris said several times he wanted to stay in the single market - http://uk.businessinsider.com/boris-johnson-single-market-brexit-campaign-customs-union-2018-1

However, as he is a lying, pleonexian cockwomble, I wouldn't believe him if he told me what day it was.

    Yawn. This thread is embarrassing.

People seem to want to cut their balls off, just to prove they have the right to cut their balls off.

Van Gogh cut his ear off. I suppose that was a good career move.

And you wonder why remain keep getting the words project fear poked straight back at them. This country when we leave the EU will 1. Not run out of food. 2. Not run out of medicines. 3. Not run out of energy supplies.

Even if we have to source any from other countries, it is simply a complete blatant lie to say any of the above would happen. Can you really see countries refusing to export goods?

Keep hearing about being misled from Leave..... It was exactly the same from the government pushed remain campaign...

Remember the punishment budget which would HAVE to be implemented immediately following a leave win made up of a mixture of extra public spending cuts and tax rises? A lie from remain camp Osbourne, which I am pushed a few undecided voters onto the remain side.

Remember when health minister Stephen Dorell announced that voting leave would stop funding increases to the NHS ? Another lie, in the March budget, the chancellor announced the social care system would have another £2 billion pumped into it over the next three years and an extra £100 million would be made available for new triage programs at English hospitals this winter. He also set aside an extra £325 million to allow the first NHS Sustainability and Transformation Plans to proceed.

Remember when remain figurehead David Cameron said he would stay on should we vote leave to negotiate the brexit settlement? Another LIE which put the government into disarray looking for someone to complete the job.

...Just waiting for the stock response from project fear about a brexit bus saying we send £350 million per week to the EU lets fund our NHS instead. Now that isn't even a direct lie because no where did it say lets spend the full amount on the NHS. I agree It should have been made clearer that not that full amount will be sent direct to the NHS but some of it could..

To top it off, this thing about all the EU money spent in this region and we voted leave. Actually it was our tax payers money that was used. The EU do not have money of their own, we sent it over in the first place for them to top slice it. What we should be doing is shaking up our own accountable political elite to ensure that investment in projects continues once our payments to the EU finally cease.

That's the main thing, we can vote for who we desire in our own country but do not get that luxury with the EU apart from powerless MEP's who a diluted with MEPS from across the whole continent. If we want political reform and things to be funded correctly, we need to sort that out on home soil first and hold our elected MP's to account.

Is it democratic to deny people the right to change their mind?

On another note, there is a growing suggestion that the british media has been suppressing news that members of the WTO, The U.S., New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Ukraine, Israel and Moldova have blocked Britain’s post-Brexit entry into the WTO. I didn't know this but it seems one single WTO member can block new membership. Curiously, the member for Moldova was blocked from attending a trade summit in the UK by our current PM.
