If he steps down in his post match he'll win me over. Tonite was a massive moment. Accept that as a norm and we're in trouble. The warning signs are always there. At any level.
Southgate found out, tactically one dimensional and now the rest of Europe have worked him out he hasn't got a clue what to do. Some great talent being wasted by him and his tactics.
Why does Southgate pick so many obviously mediocre players to play for England? Why not stick to an obvious core team of decent players, and just try one or two new/fresh ones out? Having said that, Southgate is not a top class coach/manager. He says the right things but can't bring himself to do them.
I'll be honest, I forgot about Guehi. Walker has never seen a centre half. I think for me, the issue was that Maguire wasn't on from the start. Whilst he's not the most graceful, defensively he's by far the best centre half that England has. We just look so much more assured with him in the side.
They improved with him gone. It took them an hour to score once, but less than half an hour to score another three
Positive. A more adventurous and clued up coach would have won at least one of those tournaments. Blessed with a talented squad and has wasted it. That’s my opinion and I respect that many won’t agree.
All this best manager since 1966 crap. By that token Davey was our best manager since 1912. Robson and Venables were far superior to this muppet. Had an easy ride to the WC semi finishing 2nd in the group and avoiding all the decent teams. Even Croatia weren't fancied. Same in the Euros, France, Spain and Germany all past their best. Take an early lead against an ageing Italy and then shut shop up All of a sudden he's the best manager since sliced bread. Does my head in this bloke.
Totally agree that he should stick to a core team and any new players should be tried out from the bench. He's put a lot of unnecessary pressure on himself tonight by protecting players that have played a lot of games this season but will be fit and well to fly to Asia and America to play pre season games in a months time.
How did styles play. In work listened on radio. Laughed alot . 0-4 at home to a very average **** team to be fair
Agreed. Compare McManaman and even Darren Anderton in '96 running like spring chickens at 100mph, to the move-it-up 5 yards at a time crap that this lot play.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...-racist-b-know-Hungarian-national-anthem.html The result is made worse that we lost to a racist country that one of our own players decided he wanted to play for. At least the fans at the game didn't let them forget.
Can you post a list of racist countries please? And not simply based upon who turns up to football matches.
All of them That's probably unfair and there may be some that aren't, so I'll change it to all countries whose culture I am aware of. Edit* Having said that, the guy running Hungary is particularly vile. But having said that, I enjoyed watching their team and fans tonight. Nothing is ever straight forward.
The biggest problem is the lack of cohesion & games together. Southgate’s success has come from having a relatively settled side & only changing a couple at the most. Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Rice, Phillips, Sterling & Kane have been regular starters over the last couple of years with Shaw or Chilwell at LWB, Trippier or James at RWB & any one of Saka, Foden or Grealish taking the other spot & maybe Henderson or Bellingham starting if we go 4-3-3 over 3-5-2 but there’s not been many players used. Stones has never played with Guehi, don’t think Maguire’s ever played with Tomori or if he has it’s a long time ago. No left back in the squad (bizarre). A midfield 3 of Phillips, Bellingham & Gallagher that’s never played together. Saka on the wrong side to where he plays for his club. Over half the team changing from game to game. It just doesn’t make sense. I appreciate he’s trying to give players a break & has injury & covid issues but I’m sure it could be handled better.
To be fair any other country in the world could easily say that England is a racist country, because a good chunk of the people here are. A country that wasn't institutionally racist wouldn't offer families money to take in white refugees from Europe, while sending the brown ones to Rwanda. On the football... Southgate out.
