Its only a slight worry at the moment but P.h said before the window opened that we needed to look at experience no matter what age.So far I've not seen or heard any transfer rumours linking us with an such type players.Lets hope we have a few "under the radar" targets within our sights.
Yes he seems to have the relevant experience.Like you mentioned yesterday players under the radar.I hope we've a couple more lined up.Thanks again redarmychris for your input it certainly creates interest.
Aye, he's played 150ish career games at a decent standard, including 30 odd in the Championship and over 20 in La Liga. It's not the sort of signing we were looking at in the summer to say the least.
I posted good info years ago on here but god forbid if any deal didn't come off I was made to feel like it was my fault so I know how you feel sometimes.
The problem with Championship experienced players is that the good ones cost too much, and the affordable ones are naff. I'd be happy taking a gamble on players who have 200+ career games under their belt at league 1 level personally. Like we did with Potts. The problem is, in the summer we seemed to be just recruiting players as opposed to positions. So now we're top heavy in 1 particular position and light in others. The squad is unbalanced.
If this consortium were serious about launching promotion within the next three seasons then the task starts now and they can afford to pay wages of such as Chris Martin they are just choosing not too. We need a Wilkinson and Hendry of today but you gotta pay for it
I don't think its quite like that with the new owners, after all they said they weren't going to do anything crazy, and that they are happy with the set up here currently. Which is no bad thing, slowly building is the way we need to go. However, we might not get that chance if we were to go down this season, which given our current league position, and current squad of players, is a high possibility unfortunately. Get through this season though, with new recruits in the coming weeks, then we should be okay, and will be in a good position to start that slow build to who knows where?
The new owners haven't said they want us to be in the Premier League in 3 years though. I don't think too much at the club is going to change on the field other than better player retention. Continue to build a squad the right way, and all being well, if we can keep hold of our better players for that extra year, we'll eventually be challenging at the right end of the table. The thing the common football fan lacks in this day and age is patience. We all want everything now. You only have to look on twitter at all the jobsworths replying to every tweet by the club with "f*ck that, announce signings". A slow and methodical approach might be the key to long term success.
They can afford to pay wages personally, but that doesn't mean Barnsley Football Club can. It's easy spending other folks' money isn't it?
Five or six million quid spent in the right areas would give us all hope if they don't we shall drift further behind the other average clubs we have ti keep pace or stay a step in front of the rivals in size to us
Like I said, it's proper easy spending other people's money. I've got hope anyway, regardless of spending money that that we might not have.
and if we go down that's £6 million lost straight away, Mr Cryne told us this a few seasons back. Its probably a bit more now. So to spend in that region is not beyond reason IMHO.
The problem isn’t with the info. I love transfer speculation and discussion. The problem is with narcissistic drip feeding and making everything about him, as well as throwing a hissy fit when people don’t talk to him like royalty. Little Nixon.
And if we spent that AND went down, then we'd be in a right mess. The players we're linked with shows some intent by the current hierarchy, and should be good enough to keep us comfortably in this league in my opinion without the need to go mental.
Why do people always expect us to go down if we spend money ? Never understood why spending money on players means we have to go down ? Just like if we spent peanuts on players we should be delighted to finish 4th bottom ! I can see why people are scared of us paying big transfer fees etc. but why should we get relegated after ? Maybe we would end up in play offs or even , God forbid, get promoted , we dont have to get relegated just because we spend money. I agree that we would not be certain to be promoted, but we are not certain of staying up if we carry on paying peanuts either. For me there should be a mixture of players coming, not all bargain basement punts nor all big money gambles either.
I didn't say that. And if anything it's the other way around. Why do people always assume spending loads of money guarantees championship safety, or the play-offs or promotion. It definitely doesn't. Look at Birmingham for one. My point was, what's the point in risking our future for a short term gain, when a more calculated approach is much more likely to benefit us in the long run.
